A Look on the Inside of the Dorman Cavs

Lee McKenzie take us on another look on the inside of the Dorman Program with a look back at Hillcrest and Easley and a look ahead to the Boiling Springs encounter.

Since I was unable to update the article last week, I have two wins to talk about and an upcoming game against a local region opponent.  We are still atop the polls and it seems we are getting a little better each week.

On Friday 9-27-02, we beat Hillcrest 27-3 in a tough game.  The defense was on the field all night it seemed.  We got ahead early 21-3 in the first half and the second half was a defensive battle.  Hillcrest had a few drives which consumed some clock but we held when it counted and kept them off the scoreboard.  Our passing game improved a little from the Westside game but we are still was not clicking on all cylinders.  It was another win and we went to 5-0.

This past Friday night we played Easley and even though they had been struggling, this was a game that concerned us.  Coach Gutshall reminded us of the last regular season game of 1998 when a lightly regarded Easley came to Dorman and dominated, winning by a comfortable margin.  We executed well this past week and the offense seemed to score almost every possession.  A lot of guys that don't normally get a lot of playing time were able to play and contribute.  It was a fun Homecoming game and we won 54-7.   I scored my first defensive touchdown at Dorman with a fumble recovery in the endzone and was quite excited about that.

We finally face a region opponent this week in Boiling Springs.  They are a much improved team this year and we will have our hands full.  Hopefully, we can play the way we are capable and continue to win.  The schedule is beginning to heat up and we are going to be in some dogfights beginning this week.  This is when the season begins to get fun.  We are 6-0 and still moving toward our ultimate goal of getting to and winning the state championship.  I am sure there are many people that still doubt if we are championship caliber but I am beginning to feel more confident in this team every week.

This week's game is like a home game considering the short drive across town so there should be a big crowd in Boiling Springs this week.  I hope to come back and discuss another victory next week.

        See ya again soon.
