It's hard being #1 for many but Gilchrist and the Panthers continue to work hard each and every week to try and maintain their ranking. When asked about how being ranked #1 made him feel Gilchrist replied, "It just tells me that we've come a long way since the preseason and are continuing to get better each week." While Gilchrist has been one of the most prolific running backs in terms of yardage over the past few seasons he's set aside personal goals in order to help his team continue to win. "My goal is to play 7 more weeks! (state championship)"
Gilchrist says that he's looking forward to the Panther's game against West-Oak because if they are successful this week then the West-Oak matchup will determine the region champions.
In terms of recruiting Gilchrist says he has offers from Newberry, Gardner-Webb, and SC State. He says that he's wide open at this point as many D1 schools continue to flood him with mail and phone calls. The three schools tendering him an offer already are recruiting him as a running back while most D1 schools are looking at him as a LB or athlete.
One thing of note about "Qua-Qua" is that he's lowered his 40 yard dash time tremendously since we spoke to him in the offseason. "Yeah I worked hard on my blocking and my speed in the offseason." That work has shown as he lowered his 40 time from 4.6 seconds to a 4.38 while maintaining 200 pounds on his 6'2 frame.
D1 colleges should take note as "Qua-Qua" continues to open eyes each and every week while helping his team stay on top of the rankings. SCPrepNation.com will have more updates on "Qua-Qua" Gilchrist as the season progresses so keep it locked right here.
