Lowcountry Highlights from Week 7

Some lack luster performances by some top ranked teams. Baptist Hill continues it quest to avenge last years first round playoff defeat. Wando continues to improve.

Stratford 32         West Ashley 12

Even though the Knights get the win, it was not pretty. Coach Stackley has got to be about at his wits end with all the mental mistakes and penalties each week. The noose will start to tighten on the Knights as they take on James Island next week and a very effective passing attack.

Berkeley 14        Goose Creek 3

Coach Brown started this contest by benching his star pupil LB Ryan Brown for the first half to get his attention for what can only be described as a less than acceptable performance over the last few weeks. I had heard from a buddy at Berkeley that he was not happy with his level of effort. Did it get his attention? We will find out this week as the Stags travel to Wando for what should be the premiere matchup in the Lowcountry this week.

Wando 31             James Island 27

The ground attack of the Wando Warriors was pretty much stiffeled but the passing game was wide open for the Warriors and they just keeps getting better and better every week. This is their 4th straight victoryThe Warriors went into the fourth quarter trailing the Trojans 20-17 and pulled out all the stops posting two TD's in the final quarter for the win. Sophmore RB Mike Jefferson surpassed the 1000 yard mark although he was held to less than 100 yards rushing on the night. Warrior take on Berkeley next week in my pick for lowcountry game of the week.

Summerville 62       Hilton Head 22

The Wave litterally rolled over the Seahawks as RB Alex Haynes rips of 125 yards and 4 TD's on the night. All this in the first half. After the Stratford game I said that the Wave would not loose another game this year in the regular season. Looks like I might be right. Summerville is at winless Beaufort next week.

Colleton County 35    Battery Creek 33

What a great ending to a great ballgame. Cougar defense give up the touchdown with less than 2 minutes left. Battery Creek lines up for the two point conversion to tie and the Cougs shut them down. Coach Riley has got to be very happy with the level of play of the Couger since thier thumping at Stratford. Cougs now 5-2 and 1-0 for the year.

Timberland 22          North Charleston 0

Another mistake filled game that both teams would just as soon forget about. Timberland scores seven in the second and 15 in the third to take to sloppy win.

Baptist Hill 45            Eloree 8

QB Cleve McCovey led the Bobcats again with 220 yards rushing and 4 TD's in a blowout.

Several games have been postponed until Saturday or Monday. Stay tuned for more once those games are complete.
