Basketball is just around the corner and we spotlight a 2009 prospect who is starting to get some buzz generated for himself. T.L. Hanna SF/PG/SG Johnathan Gray had an oustanding sophomore season last year for the Yellow Jackets. With another season under his belt and a nice showing on the AAU circuit this summer Gray is looking to up the stakes and make a bigger splash on the hoops recruiting scene.

Johnathan suited up for the Carolina Celtics in the summer and he helped the Celtics to a great season on the AAU circuit. He says he also ran into the toughest player he's ever faced this summer as well. "Yeah Demarcus Cousins is the toughest player I've ever had to play."

As for this upcoming season with the Yellow Jackets Gray shared some of his early thoughts with us. "This year I'm gonna go out and try to win, play hard, and be aggressive. I worked hard on improving my three-point range this offseason too."

A few games on the calendar are already circled for Gray he informed us. "Definitely Westide because that is our rival but also Greenwood because they say they are going to be tha best in the confernce and maybe the state." Gray said his goal is to help get the Yellow Jackets deep into the playoffs.

Last year as sophomore Gray averaged 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for T.L. Hanna. After his strong showing this summer it wouldn't surprise us to see that production jump quite signifcantly.

In regards to recruiting Gray says a couple of in-state programs have been showing him the most early attention. "Charleston Southern and Furman are coming after me pretty strong. Out of those two though I'd say Charleston Southern is coming the hardest." Gray also named an early favorite as well. "I really like Winthrop."

The 2009 prospect also talked about what will make the biggest impact on his recruitment when it comes time to make a decision. "Really the academics and what kinds of majors the school has will be the biggest factors for me."
