The top position in Region 8-1A will be up for grabs this coming Friday, when two of the Pee Dee's top teams collide in this week's Game of the Week.
The Latta Vikings have impressed many throughout this past season with only one loss, which came to Dillon in Week 1. Since then, the Vikings have been on fire allowing only 6 points total in the past three games. The Latta Vikings surprisingly received a few votes in this past week's AP Poll, but not enough to claim a Top 10 ranking. Latta's quarterback, Hamp Manning has completed 21 of 32 passes for 313 yards and five touchdowns. Most of the Vikings offense has been performed on the ground with the powerful legs of Derrick Wilson and Jason McGill.
The Lake View Wild Gators also lost to the Dillon Wildcats in their first game of the year, which fell in Week 3. In three of the past four games for the Gators, the offense has scored over 40 points with the defense allowing less than two touchdowns in each game. The Gators were placed at #8 in the latest poll released by the Associated Press. The Gators offense is led by tailback Vernell Jones, who claimed a total of five touchdowns in the past two games vs. Johnsonville and Green Sea-Floyds. The defense is led by two dominant players that go by the names of Guy Townsend and Anthony Washington who combined a total of over 60 tackles this season.
Last week: Latta defeated Creek Bridge 46-0; Lake View defeated Green Sea-Floyds 49-13. Both of these games were region games.
Last year: Lake View defeated the Latta Vikings 31-14 in a convincing fashion. This season, the Latta Vikings are out for revenge as they travel to Lake View Friday night.
