One of the key targets for current Byrnes QB Chas Dodd has been 2009 WR Ricco Sanders. At 5'11 175 pounds Sanders may not wow you from a physical standpoint just by looking at him but opponents trying to match up with him have had a tough go of it this season. You see Sanders runs very good routes but he also has 4.36 speed which creates separation once he breaks off the line. That combination has landed Sanders on the recruiting radar in a big way. Two weeks ago against rivals Gaffney Sanders hauled in 3 touchdown passes in a big victory for the Rebels. Some key programs from across the nation have already taken notice of his talents too.
Sanders talked about what schools he's been in contact with and also who he'd like to hear from in the near future. "Right now I'm hearing from Stanford and Wisconsin. I don't have any offers yet." As for schools that Sanders likes at this point he said, "South Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Michigan are probably my favorites at this point in time."
The 2009 prospect admits there is one school that he may like more than the others. "I really like South Carolina. I like their program a lot." Considering his blazing speed, route running, and ability to make people miss in the open field it wouldn't be hard to envision Sanders in Steve Spurrier's offense with former Spurrier players like Reidel Anthony, Jacquez Green, and current Gamecock Kenny McKinley excelling in his system.
For now though Sanders says his focus is on helping his Byrnes squad as they near the playoffs. With their record at 10-0 currently Sanders offered this about his team, "We just come together as a team out there. We come together everyday in practice and it shows on the field every Friday night."
"My goals are pretty simple. Just to be a better player and a better person every day."
The 2009 standout also talked about areas of his game where he'd like to improve the most. "I think I need to become more consistent and better at reading coverages."
When asked about the major factors that will play a big role in his decision making process for college he replied, "I'm looking for a good strong program with a good tradition of winning."
