Washington: Qualifies & 2nd Offer Today?

Chaz Washington has been a highly productive LB for Richland Northeast throughout his career. With one offer already in hand the RNE star is hoping a visit today to an in-state program could result in his second offer. The good news is that he's made his qualifying score and has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. A new favorite emerges from the SEC as well. Come inside for the latest.

It was a tough Friday night for RNE LB Chaz Washington as his squad fell short in a second half comeback attempt to knock off reigning AAAA Division 2 champions Greenwood 28-22. Saturday Washington will take an unofficial visit to an in-state school and thinks he may get his second offer.

"Yes sir I'm going to Coastal Carolina and I think I may get my second offer from them. Their linebacker coach came down to see me when we played Sumter and he wanted to offer there but he said if I come down to make a visit I would probably get it when I came down."

"I really like their defensive coordinator. He's the main coach I've had contact with. It's a good campus with good surroundings. Their program is on the way up and I could see myself helping them. I'm really looking forward to meeting the head coach and the rest of their coaching staff today."

Washington will be at Coastal Carolina again next month as he was recently selected to play in the SCADA North-South All-Star game. Today's visit will give him a chance to become more familiar with his surroundings and facilities as he will be there for a week next month to prepare for the game. That however isn't Washington's best news as of late.

The big news for Washington is that he's cleared the requirements by the NCAA clearinghouse. "I've gotten everything straight academically and I'm really excited and happy about that. My family and I had a lot of talks with the academic director at Tennessee, Scott Altizer, and he really helped and let me know exactly what I needed to do."

The Vols are serious about taking Washington on. "Coach Chavis says he's looking forward to having me at Tennessee in the fall. They had a good feeling I would get my part in the classroom take care of and they would put the offer on the table for me verbally. As of right now that's where it stands with but I'm still interested in other schools. Until I have an official offer in the mail from them (Tennessee) I have to do what's best for me and seriously look at the other schools that are interested in me."

"I think very highly of everything that they've (Tennessee) done on their part to include me into their system by sending coach Greg Adkins down by plane the day before one of their big games to get my transcripts and get it back to Mr. Altizer. They didn't have to do that but it showed me that they are taking a serious interest in me being a part of their program."

Washington says Tennessee leads slightly over Savannah State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Coastal Carolina, and North Carolina.
