"It was a good game. I think we played hard the the whole game. Our offense was outstanding and the defense, we did our job. In the second half we didn't do much differently. We just wanted to stop their QB from running the ball and geting outside for big plays." That's what Miller had to say about last week's win over a strong Irmo squad. With the state's #1 ranked team next on the playoff map Miller took some time to talk about his squad's task at hand.
"Practice has been very intense this week we are doing some new things and trying to adjust to the things that Byrnes does. We got our plate full this week but I feel that we can get the job done if we execute our gameplan. Our mind set is to respect our opponents but never fear them. We can't come out intimidated that they are ranked # 1 and how loud the crowd will be and all that stuff. We've just got to play our game."
Miller has in mind a recipe for a Trojans victory. "I think we can't have any turnovers on offense and on defense we need to stop the run and contain all their impact players which they have a lot of."
A 2009 prospect, Miller has enjoyed yet another outstanding season. Currently he has 173 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks.
We asked Miller who the toughest team the Trojans have faced so far this year and he replied, "Clover is the best team we have faced so far but Byrnes will be come Friday night hands down no matter what happens." In regards to individual opponents that have posed the toughest assignments for his Trojans defense he says South Pointe QB Stephon Gilmore makes great plays.
Some new schools have emerged on the recruiting front since we last spoke to Miller. Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Vanderbilt are just a few. The list grows every week and I'm planning on get a few offers soon hopefully. South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Clemson and North Carolina State are my top 5 currently. I don't have a clear favorite but USC, Alabama, and Tennessee stand out to me the most."
"Tennessee and South Carolina are after me pretty hard but I'd have to say Alabama is recruiting me the hardest right now out of all the schools." With no offers yet Miller says a number of those programs he feels are close to extending him a scholarship. Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina State are the programs that may be on the verge of offering Miller he says.
This season the Trojans have returned to prominence on the gridiron and Miller shared his thoughts about their success. "It has been great. This team can go down as one of the best to play at the school but we're not satisfied just yet." A few more victories would make their season all the more joyful culminating in a AAAA Division 1 state championship.
