Mid-Carolina 61 Chapin 41

A recap of the return matchup between Mid-Carolina and Chapin. Courtesy of Mid-Carolina head coach Zeb Reid.

Chapin's last game was against us in a 26 point Chapin loss on December 5th, 2007. Since that time, Chapin had almost one week to prepare for us. Chapin had a good game plan going into tonight's game and they came out strong working the ball around offensively and setting up in a different defensive look than the previous game. After the first quarter we were down (13-11). Krishawn Holley caught fire in the first quarter hitting 3 of 3 from behind the arc, to score 9 of our 11 first quarter points. Niles Drasites- Chapin's (#15) 5'11 junior shooting guard scored 5 points in the first quarter to get Chapin going to start the game.

In the second quarter we were able to limit Chapin to just six total points, while we scored 14 to take a 25-19 lead going into half-time. Calvin Herbert scored 9 of our 14 2nd quarter points, in his first game back from spraining his left ankle vs. Chapin from our previous meeting.

We made a nice run to start the 3rd quarter with Krishawn Holley & Tevins Walker hitting three pointers to start the period. We outscored Chapin (14-9) in the third period of play, however Chapin seemed to have some fire left and cut the game close before we were able to pressure Chapin into back-to back-to back turnovers to begin the 4th quarter. Six Mid-Carolina High School Boys Basketball Players scored in the 4th quarter to put up 22 total points in the quarter & to win the game by twenty total points.

I thought (#15) 6'2/Soph. -Calvin Herbert came back strong from his ankle injury scoring 13 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and making one steal. Tevins Walker, (#14) 6'0 Soph.-A.K.A. (Mr. Clutch) scored 11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, picked up two steals, and dished out 2 assists tonight vs. Chapin. Krishawn Holley played his best all around game of the season scoring 23 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and stealing 4 passes. Krishawn went 5/6 from the three point line and really got after Chapin defensively tonight. Hubert Wicker was very steady tonight at point guard scoring 5 points, dishing out 5 assists, and making 3 steals in 31 minutes of play. Jordan Harmon faced a double team for most of the game, however he managed to score 6 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. Nick Hentz, Malcolm Jones, & Anthony "Amp" Gallman gave us good minutes tonight in the paint, playing solid defense and picking up some solid rebounds. 58 of our total 61 points tonight were scored by sophomores. In five games we have almost five players averaging in double figures and two of our sophomores are ranked in the top 5 in the Midlands in rebounding.

I'm proud of the team for the win tonight to improve to (5-0) on the season. Our team is becoming more and more like a family and the guys are beginning to take great ownership in this team & each other. Our team is very young, however we are picking up some much needed experience & the expectations are starting to rise. I appreciate all of the Mid-Carolina High School Boosters & Fans driving to Chapin tonight. We had a great crowd. I think we had more folks from Mid-Carolina at the Chapin game, than the home team.
