Dwaney Mills Hearing From SEC Schools

2009 Northwestern DE Dwaney Mills put in work this year as a junior. With 85 tackles and 8.5 sacks to his credit on a loaded team he's looking to step it up even more for his senior season next year. SEC and ACC programs have already started calling and SCPrepNation.com brings you the latest with the 6'3 220 pound standout inside.

Northwestern High played one of the toughest schedules last season on the gridiron in the entire state of South Carolina. They had a great run losing only to Charlotte Country Day during their first game of the season and eventual AAAA Division 1 state champions Byrnes High but also defeating eventual AAAA Division 2 state champions Clover High. With a great deal of their powerful squad returning next season we caught up with their 2009 standout DE Dwaney Mills for an update. The 6'3 220 pound standout caught our eye last year and we have the scoop regarding his recruitment and immediate plans for the offseason.

On a team of playmakers DE Dwaney Mills made sure his presence was felt throughout the season. You couldn't watch the Trojans defense without realizing the talents of the junior standout. Mills ended the year with 85 tackles and 8.5 sacks and already colleges have started to inquire about the youngster. Elite level colleges at that. "I'm hearing from Tennessee, NC State, and LSU already on a regular basis." Although still early in the process Mills says he will continue to gather information from any school that shows him interest there are a few programs that stand out for him at the moment. "I really like Florida State, LSU, Clemson, South Carolina, and Georgia." Currently he has no offers yet but is patiently awaiting that special day when he does receive his first scholarship offer.

Throughout our evaluations of Mills we saw his ability to dominate most opponents and use a great blend of strength and speed coming off the edge to disrupt most team's offensive strategy. One game that stands out the most to Mills was the aforementioned battle with Clover High. He talked about his performance and what it meant for his team in rebuilding their confidence. "The Clover game was big for not only me but the entire team. I had 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks. What was so remarkable about that game was that I was so ready to prove that even though our team were the underdogs, we were ready to make a statment that everbody would remember! All that said I had a really good game and we came out with a big win. It really helped us."

Mills says he'll work arduously throughout the offseason to continue to get faster and stronger in hopes of improving his stock even more. He also says that he'll work hard on his ability to read opposing offensive schemes in order to prepare his angle of attack before the snap.

Given the number of outstanding player that they will return next season there's no question as to what the objective is for next year. "We want to get better and better. We want it to be the best season Northwestern has ever had and win the state championship." On a personal level Mills had this to offer, "My personal goal is to be one of the best defensive ends out there so that everyone knows who I am even before I step foot on the field."

The 2009 standout already has an idea as to what he's looking for when choosing a school too. "The conference, education, and playing time will probably be some of the things that I will take into heavy consideration. I want to major in mechanical engineering."

For now Mills is continuing his work in the weight room and plans to attend various camps and combines to try and improve. SCPrepNation.com will bring you the very latest about Dwaney's recruitment so keep it locked right here!
