Q&A: Fort Mill C/PF Chalmers Rogers

Fort Mill C/PF Chalmers Rogers lead the Yellow Jackets to the AAAA state title last season. The 2008 prospect has Fort Mill flying high once again and inside learn the very latest regarding the All-State standout as he leads his team into the playoffs with visions of repeating as state champions.

KF: You recently broke the 1,000 points scored mark, is breaking that barrier a big deal to you?
CR: Not really, because I was not aware of the accomplishment until right after it happened.

KF: Talk about what is was like to win the state championship last year, how did it make you feel?
CR: It was a great experience and something that I will always remember.

KF: You guys are off to another great season so far, how hard has it been to keep it up knowing that everybody you face gets hyped up more because you guys are the defending state champions?
CR: We know that everyone wants to beat the number one team in the state so we are aware that we must be ready to play each and every night.

KF: What do you feel are the strengths of your game at this point in your career?
CR: I'd say my rebounding, defense, scoring ability in the post.

KF: What areas did you try and improve the most this past offseason?
CR: My face up game and jump shot.

KF: Did you run with anybody on the AAU circuit last offseason?
CR: I played with the United Celtics out of Charlotte NC.

KF: Talk about your best game so far in your varsity career. Who was it against, what kind of numbers did you put up, and why was it so memorable for you?
CR: It'd have to be the state championship game last season. I had 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was by far the biggest game we had ever played in.

KF: Who are the toughest players you've had to face so far?
CR: Pinewood Prep's Milton Jennings (#1 rated player in SC for 2009 class)

KF: What team is the toughest you've faced?
CR: Pinewood Prep

KF: What game is the biggest to you in terms of a rivalry and why?
CR: Northwestern because each year it is a tough game and Nation Ford because we know them so well and they are local.

KF: What are your averages per game so far this year?
CR: 17.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.5 blocks, 90% FT

KF: Are you hearing from any colleges at this point? If so name the ones you are hearing from?
CR: Western Carolina, Fordham, and Lander.

KF: Do you have any scholarship offers?
CR: No.

KF: Tell us something about yourself that would surprise a lot of people?
CR: I am also a baseball player - outfield and first base.

Dream school: Clemson - both my parents went there and my grandparents live there. I have been a fan my whole life.

UPDATE:Since this interview Chalmers suffered a broken nose during a game against Lancaster High. The Yellow Jackets also suffered their first defeat of the season to South Pointe 70-63 as two sport star Stephon Gilmore poured in a game-high 24 points. Fort Mill's record now stands at 23-1 overall as they enter the AAAA playoffs and play host to Spartanburg High on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see the matchup between Rogers and Spartanburg PF/C Omar Sanders. Stay tuned!
