Z-Man & Omar Sanders Get It Done 65-55!

It wasn't easy but the Spartanburg Vikings are set to play in Columbia next week for the AAAA state title. The #1 ranked team in preseason the Vikings hit a few bumps in the road but Doug Lowe's team powered by PG Zycorrian Robinson and PF/C Omar Sanders defeated a very tough Wren team 65-55. Come inside for a recap of the action on Friday night at Littlejohn Coliseum.

More quick notes of the AAAA Upper State championship game between Spartanburg and Wren. Once again these are just quick notes I was able to take during the game as I took photographs throughout.

Wren not having a long trip to make has brought tremendous support especially in the student section. Could play a role in tonight's game. When they came onto the floor you would've though it was a home game for the Tigers of Clemson.

Sebastian Koch got things off to a big start with a 3 pointer at the top of the key. He would then assists on some of Wren's next few buckets. Wren relies heavily on the 3. Spartanburg got a good start from their two big heavy hitters Zycorrian Robinson and Omar Sanders. Sanders' last game was one to forget against Hillcrest but he comes out and found his way early on inside. Sanders has grabbed some key rebounds on the offensive and defensive glass.

Spartanburg clings to a 25-24 lead at the halftime. Zycorrian Robinson leads the way once again. Sebastian Koch has demonstrated his ability to handle the show despite not handling the ball a ton in Wren's move the ball offense. When they need a set play he runs the show and often finds the open man for a good look and score. Spartanburg has done well to offset the Wren heavy crowd in the early going. They will need to do more of the same so they won't be a big factor in the second half should Wren go on a run.

Omar Sanders is making his presence felt inside blocking shots and Zycorrian Robinson is carrying over his strong play from the 2nd quarter in the 3rd with a three pointer to make it 28-25. Bozymowski makes a three pointer but Robinson answers right back with another three pointer himself. Another 3 from Robinson as he obviously is feeling it. Sanders with another block. Spartanburg is trying to make a run and going for a quick KO of Wren but Wren continues to answer the bell. Bozymowski is in foul trouble with 3 early fouls.

Doug Lowe's team is starting to look like the preseason #1 everyone anticipated they'd be. Wren's Bozymoyski sneaks inside for a quick bucket. Bozymowski then quickly gets a cheap foul on a offensive rebound attempt and has to sit with 3:51 in the 3rd. Wren's Demetrius Babb knocks down another crucial 3 pointer to give Wren the lead 36-34 . Spartanburg's Andre Whitmire is big inside for the Vikings with a putback basket down low. Robinson to Sanders on a alley-oop dunk that pushes it back Spartanburg's way 38-36. Koch has a good give and go and goes to the line to shoot free throws. He goes 2-2 with 2:07 to go in 3rd quarter to tie it at 38. Wren's Tim Franklin goes hard to the bucket to give Wren the lead by 2.

Andre Whitmire goes 0-2 from the line but Omar Sanders gets the offensive rebound. Koch gets a costly 5 seond call with Sanders guarding him. End of the 3rd quarter Wren is ahead 40-38.

Sanders gets a nice up and under bucket on a scramble after a tough shot attempt and miss by Robinson. Tied at 40. Sebastian Koch makes a tough circus shot going inside to help Wren retake the lead. Spartanburg's Burton Jones responds with a 3 pointer to make it 43-42 Spartanburg. Sanders gets a easy bucket after hustling back down the court 45-42 Spartanburg. Raquentin Miller fouls DJ Brown on a 3 pointer. Brown makes 2-3 and All-State selection Boyzmowski returns at 6:11 mark. Omar Sanders nails a big 3 at the top of the arch to make it 48-44 Spartanburg.

Robinson steals the ball after a offensive rebound by DJ Brown down low taking away another Wren opportunity. Babb with a nice putback after a miss by Franklin on a steal. Whitmre powers up inside against a tired looking Wren defense and gets a layup. Sanders is running the floor with enthusiasm and gets rewarded with the ball but gets fouled and misses both shots. Franklin gets airborne with nowhere to pass it and turns it over. Robinson gets inside deep in the paint and makes a great pullup floater 52-46 Spartanburg. Robinson then fouls Franklin who hits 1-2. Boyzmowski misses on a putback. Burton Jones on a putback basket to make it 54-47. Robinson with another tough bucket to make it 56-47. Koch makes a 3 falling away and down to make it 56-50. Robinson puts up a questionable shot early in the possession and misses Wren gets ball and makes a quick 3 pointer to make it 56-53. Wren makes a big mistake in not fouling Omar Sanders and he makes them pay as he takes it to the bucket and gets it to fall 58-53. DJ Brown gets fouled shooting a 3 and makes 2-3 with 48.2 seconds to go, 58-55 Spartanburg.

Spartanburg throws it out of bounds on the inbounds pass. 48.2 Wren ball. Burton Jones gets big rebound after a 3 point miss. Wren should foul Omar Sanders as he has struggled very badly from the free throw line. I think 1-9 last game vs Hillcrest and just 1-4 so far tonight. Zycorrian Robinson goes to the line instead with 38.3 seconds to go and calmly knocks down 2 of 2 60-55 Spartanburg. DJ Brown dribbles it off his foot out of bounds. Wren again doesn't foul Sanders and puts Zycorrian Robinson on the line with 31.4 to go and makes 2-2 62-55 Spartanburg lead. Wren throws a pass too high for Koch in the right corner and turns it over to Spartanburg with 25.3 to go. They put Sanders on the line when it's too late

Spartanburg wins 65-55. Spartanburg is the AAAA Upper State champion.
