UP NEXT: 2009 WR LaQuan Gilliard

Junior wide receiver, LaQuan Gilliard, was a key ingredient to one of the best receiving corps in the state last fall for the Summerville Green Wave. With the departure of A.J. Green and Marcus Morris, that should leave things wide open for Gilliard next fall, right? Well, there's one slight problem; Gilliard won't be in a Green Wave uniform next season.

LaQuan Gilliard will be trading in his green and gold jersey for a blue and white one, next season. SCPrepNation.com just recently learned that Gilliard will be suiting up for the Pinewood Prep Panthers next fall to close out his prep football career.

As many of you know, Georgia-bound wideout A.J. Green spent the majority of his career as a major threat to his foes. However, while teams were busy focusing on Green, WR LaQuan Gilliard took advantage of the situation by establishing his own identity. Last fall the junior finished just shy of the 1000-yard receiving mark with 955 yards.

After excelling on the gridiron last fall, quite a few programs have taken interest in the 6-3, 175 pound wideout. "I've been getting a lot of letters from South Carolina," Gilliard said. "I've also had some coming from Notre Dame. I have a cousin that plays for Coastal Carolina, and he told me that Coastal has been talking about me a lot too. I also had a chance to talk with some of the coaches from SC State."

Out of all the programs that have been expressing interest in him early on, Gilliard feels like the Gamecocks have really been stepping up their game with him. "South Carolina has probably been coming after me the hardest out of everybody," Gilliard said. "When they saw my film, they told one of my coaches that they really like how I go across the middle, take a hit, and pick up extra yards after the catch."

Gilliard has been pondering over the idea of camping with the Gamecocks this summer. This would certainly give Spurrier and Company an opportunity to evaluate him up close. He will be attending several other camps/combines as well, but is uncertain of the locations at this time.

Many people will be patiently waiting to see how Gilliard performs in a Panther's uniform next fall. With that being said, he has set aside a few goals to close out his senior year in style. "One of my goals for next season is to get over 1000 yards receiving," the talented wideout said. "Last year I came close with 955, but I want to go over the 1000-yard mark this year. I would also like to win a championship with Pinewood."
