Last fall, Denzel Myers, was spotted all over the field making plays for North Charleston High. However, what many didn't realize was that he was only a 10th grader. As a sophomore, Myers was talented enough to line up at several different positions on the field for the Cougars. On the offensive side of the ball, he played a little bit of wide receiver and quarterback. But where he primarily made his living was on the defensive side of the ball, in the secondary.
Denzel talks a little bit about his numbers with SCPrepNation.com from a season ago. "Last year I had 11 interceptions on defense," Myers said. "On offense I had close to 500 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns. I'm not quite sure how many tackles I had."
There were quite a few games that stood out for the 5-10, 170 pound gifted athlete, but he only commented on two of his best… "My best game was against Stall," Myers said. "On defense I had 3 interceptions and six tackles. On the offensive side of the ball, I had four catches for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns. I also had another good game against Burke. I had 2 interceptions and 2 touchdowns in that game."
After his stellar performance in the two games aforementioned, Myers collected several pieces of hardware to display on his trophy shelf. "I was awarded the Channel 2 Gridiron Champion Player of the Week, the US Army Player of the Week, the Dogpile Player of the Week, and the ESPN Local Player of the Week," Myers said. "I received most of those awards after the Stall and Burke games."
Myers hasn't been receiving any serious attention as of yet, but he does have in mind the programs he would like to here from when that day comes. "I wouldn't mind hearing from schools like North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, and Tennessee." I'm not being picky or anything like that, but those are just some of the big programs that I'd like to hear from."
Denzel has been working very diligently on an extensive off-season plan. He has been doing several things to prepare for next fall. With that being said, Denzel leaves SCPrepNation.com with one particular goal in mind for next season "My goal is to do any and everything that I can to help my team win a state title," Myers stated. "We want to bring a state championship back to North Charleston next fall."
