Southside Duo On USC's Radar Now?

Southside 2009 prospects SG Robbie Dreher and PG/SF Quinton Thomas are both holding a number of D1 offers. One school that was set to come to an open gym session after their NCAA run was Western Kentucky. With Darrin Horn and 3 of his assistants now in Columbia will they continue to recruit the duo for the Gamecocks? Come inside for the early scoop.

Good friends Robbie Dreher and Quinton Thomas have grown up tremendously during their career and the pair of 2009 prospects from Southside High have made a number of unofficial visits. After winning the AA state championship this year the duo continues to share recruiting interest from some of the same schools. One school that was really coming hard after the duo was Western Kentucky. After a long run in the NCAA tournament the Hilltoppers saw head coach Darrin Horn leave for the same job in Columbia for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

"Western Kentucky was trying to set up a visit to see them in an open gym but they were still in the NCAA tourney." Southside assistant coach B.J. Jackson told us. "They liked what they saw in both of them and there was a good chance that they were strongly considering offering them." With Horn's departure to Columbia though will they continue to recruit the Southside duo for the Gamecocks?

Horn just announced that he will bring 3 assistants from his Western Kentucky staff with him to Columbia. Already familiar with Dreher and Thomas it would seem almost a given that they will contact both players in the near future. We spoke to Dreher a few days after the hiring of Horn and he said that he hadn't been contacted yet. He was highly interested in Horn's Western Kentucky program but was also strongly interested in the Gamecocks. At one point last year Dreher said the Gamecocks were one of the teams he really dreamed about suiting up for. The two made multiple visits to Columbia last year to check out the campus, workout in an open gym setting with some former players, and take in what Columbia has to offer.

We asked Thomas about his interest in USC and he also told us that he would love to hear from Horn and his staff. With Odom's departure things slowed down on the recruiting front by the Gamecocks and Thomas hopes that soon will change with the former Western Kentucky staff settling in Columbia now. "It'd be nice to hear more from them, but we'll see."

Dreher and Thomas played this past weekend at the AAU Super Regionals in Augusta. Their Carolina Celtics team played in the 17U championship game and fell to last year's winner Team Truth. Team Truth sported PF Milton Jennings who just announced his decision to play for Clemson, PG Brandon Curry, SF Rayshon Mack, and other top prospects from the Palmetto State. will keep you up to date with the Southside duo as their recruitment continues to heat up. Should the Gamecocks start to make consistent contact with Dreher and Thomas we will be the first to let you know so keep it locked right here!
