SCPrepNation.com catches up with another sleeper prospect from the recruiting class of 2009 in Ridge View's Steffon Batts. Batts possesses the speed and the potential to be a solid contributor on the college level one day. Batts recently spoke with us about the latest on the recruiting front. Come inside to get the scoop on the talented CB prospect from the Midlands.

Meet Steffon Batts, a 5-11, 170 pound CB from Ridge View High School. Batts should undoubtedly be one of the better playmakers in the Palmetto State next fall.

Last fall during his junior campaign, the Columbia, SC native recorded 58 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 10 deflections from his cornerback position. As a result, several programs have been reaching out to him. "A lot of schools have been recruiting me lately," Batts said. "I've been getting stuff from Alabama, Clemson, Wake Forest, Duke, and a bunch of Ivy League schools."

Steffon has already taken a handful of visits to various campuses, and intends on taking several more within the next few weeks. "I'll be taking a trip up to Duke on the 19th of April," Batts said. "I'm going up there for their Junior Day/Spring Game. I'm going up to Clemson sometime soon also. I've been talking to the defensive coordinator (Chris Rumph), and he's been talking real good. So, we'll see what happens."

With spring ball just around the corner, several coaches will be making their way through the Palmetto State. With that being said, Batts will be anticipating their arrival. "A couple of coaches are supposed to be coming down for our spring practices," Batts said. "Our practices start on May 5th. They'll be coming to see me and a couple of my teammates."

After showing much promise on the gridiron last season, Batts is very aware of the expectation level for this upcoming season. With that being said, Batts shared with SCPrepNation.com what he has been doing in order to meet those expectations. "I have been working out at the Plex," Batts said. "I've been doing a little bit of speed training, along with a few other things. I've gotten my forty time down from a 4.5 to a 4.4. I got my vertical up too. I went from a 28 inch vertical to a 33 inch vertical. I've also put on about 10 pounds since last season."

Steffon should not have any problems qualifying academically. He's currently holding down a 3.6 GPA in the classroom, and has scored a 1480 on the SAT.
