Southside 2009 WR Chris Rhodes Update

One of the most unheralded prospects in the 2009 class, Chris Rhodes, is looking to make a big impression this offseason. The standout wide receiver had a solid junior season and displayed some deft ball skills and agility along the way. Rhodes talks about his recruitment and plans for the offseason inside.

Most people know about Chris Rhodes for his basketball skills. Rhodes helped lead Southside to the AA state championship this past season after falling in the championship game two years ago. As a point guard Rhodes is lightning quick and often breaks down his defender off the dribble. Rhodes carries that tremendous quickness and agility over to the football field for the Tigers as well. The 2009 wideout has heard from a number of schools since we first told you about him last year and he recently spoke with about his latest list of suitors.

His numbers may not be as prolific as others but he managed to make 36 catches for 613 yards and 9 touchdowns in limited action last year. We attended one Saturday afternoon game pitting the Tigers against the Carolina Trojans. Rhodes had a strong performance and had more than a few highlight plays on the day.

"Lately I've been hearing the most from Harvard, North Carolina State, North Carolina, and Alabama," Rhodes told us. Rhodes has also made a few visits this offseason when he hasn't been busy playing AAU basketball. One visit that he is looking forward to is Charlotte, NC to compete in the Under Armour/ Combine. It's there that he is eagerly hoping to show off his skills against some of the best players from the Carolinas, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Checking in at 5'10 165 pounds Rhodes says he has been working feverishly to improve all aspects of his game. Check the video below the photo of Rhodes in the game against Carolina High. The video also features 2009 Carolina High RB Tyson Dozier. will be in Charlotte to cover all of the Palmetto State prospects including Chris Rhodes as they will test and compete so stay tuned.
