"Everything was pretty nice," Gilliard said of his recent trip to Williams-Brice Stadium. "The atmosphere was real nice. I was really surprised at how many people were out there. They had a really nice crowd to say it was a spring game."
Gilliard was invited to the game by Coach Shane Beamer, who has been put in charge of keeping tabs on the '09 standout early on. However, according to Gilliard, the two of them have been hitting it off since day one. "I have been in touch with Coach Beamer a good bit, Gilliard said. "He's been mainly asking me about my grades, and how things have been going at Pinewood; stuff like that. He said that after they get done with their practices, that he's going to come by the school to check on me."
"Coach Beamer has already had a chance to see my film, and he said that he really liked what he saw. I think some of the other coaches have seen it too. He said that he would talk to me more about that at a later time."
Gilliard is still in search of his first offer, so in an effort to become more marketable, he will be hitting the camp circuit this summer, which could possibly lead him back to Columbia… "South Carolina wants me to come up to one of their football camps this summer," Gilliard said. "More than likely I'll be going to theirs and a few others. I'm not exactly sure where though."
