Jarrett Neely aka "Mr. Versatility" Update

After accumulating over 1600+ all purpose yards last year for the Northwestern Trojans. Jarrett Neely is looking for an even bigger senior season next year. Numerous D1 schools are making their pitch to the young man we've nicknamed "Mr. Versatility" and inside he gives us an update on his recruitment and offseason plans. He also shares his early top five list as well.

Playing in one of the state's most powerful offenses last year was obviously fun for RB/ATH Jarrett Neely. The Northwestern High standout torched opposing defenses for big yardage rushing with the ball and also receiving it as well.

Neely posted 1600+ yards out of the backfield and as a slot receiver at times. What makes it even more mind boggling is that Northwestern has two D1 prospects at wide receiver as well in Cordarrelle Patterson and LaBris Adams. Neely however was the team's leading receiver in terms of grabs with 72 catches for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns.

A number of schools have been making it a point to stay in contact with Neely on regular basis thus far in his recruitment he told us. "I hear from Alabama, Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, Elon, North Carolina State, and Charleston Southern on a regular basis." From that list of schools three programs have really stepped up their recruiting efforts of the 2009 prospect. "Tennessee, NC State, and Alabama are the ones who've really been coming after me the hardest."

Like many other prospects Neely says his goals this offseason are to "get bigger and faster." With a tremendously successful season last year and many of their offensive targets including himself back next year we asked Jarrett if he felt the Trojans had what it takes to improve further come next season. "I want say that I am confident that we will win right now because we have a real good shot at it."

We shared with Jarrett the fact that we really loved his versatility on the gridiron and how it presents so many headaches for opposing defenses. Having put up such huge numbers last year in a fairly balanced offense one question quickly came to mind. Can you step it up to a higher level next year? "It's funny you mention that me and my coach were actually talking about that today. He said that I am going to double the number of touchdowns so that would make 46 and be a 1000 yard rusher and receiver." 2000+ yards of offense and 46 touchdowns...not a bad goal to take into your senior season with so many schools actively pursuing you. Considering that he often was pulled early from games that were already well in hand last year it is highly possible that Neely can attain those lofty goals.

Neely hasn't made any visits lately. In fact his last visit was to South Carolina in which he told us during his last interview with us was "an 8 out of 10 for me."

We call him "Mr. Versatility" for good reason and it appears that colleges are starting to take serious notice of the 2009 standout's ability to pose tremendous matchup problems for opponentts. With so many schools on his radar we asked Neely if he had an early list of favorites that he wanted to share. He quickly replied, "My top five would be Clemson, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina."
