"Everything has been going pretty good so far," the 6-1, 265 pound defensive tackle said of his recruitment. "I've been getting a lot of stuff from schools like Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, Clemson, ECU, Georgia Tech and NC State lately."
"NC State has probably been sending me the most stuff out of everybody. They said that they really like my quickness and my explosiveness."
According to Johnson, East Carolina is another program that has been coming on strong to him. However though, the Keenan High star appears quite fond of the C-USA program as well…. "I like East Carolina a lot," the talented defensive lineman said. "I really like their coaching personnel. I also like their views on how to get stronger; how to lift. It's like everything is fast-paced in the weight room. I like the way they explain things regarding their workouts."
Oregon just recently stepped up and joined the recruiting race for the Keenan High standout. Although it is located on the other side of the map, a visit to the campus isn't totally out of the question for the Columbia native…"It's kind of far, but I wouldn't mind checking it out one day," Johnson said. "I really want to go and visit them, or maybe even go and check out a game or something. I just have to find the time to do it."
Despite all of the recruiting attention, Matthew isn't looking to make any early decisions. He's taking his time in terms of choosing a school, because he wants to make sure he finds the right fit.
Stay tuned for the latest recruiting news on DL Matthew Johnson, as things continue to heat up on the recruiting front.
Note: Last fall Johnson recorded 68 tackles, 14 TFLs, and 8 quarterback sacks.
