Brandon Thomas Set To Explode

Dorman High OL/TE Brandon Thomas said he could do better but it's hard to believe after the tremendous performance he put forth on Saturday at the Under Armour/Scout.com combine in Charlotte. Thomas stood out among the best in attendance and inside we have all the scoop and details.

Brandon Thomas Profile

I spent some extended time with Brandon Thomas on Saturday morning. We met around 6:15am and set out for Charlotte. On the way up we chatted and he informed me that the Under Armour/Scout.com combine at the Carolina Panthers practice facilities would be his first combine.

After arriving and getting registered I ran into Brandon after things got underway. I asked how he thought he was doing so far and he replied, "I just ran a 4.69 in the 40 but I felt slow, I can go faster. I can do better." The word started to spread quickly amongst the Scout.com staff and coaches in attendance. What makes it so amazing is that Thomas measured in at 6'4 and weighed 279 pounds. Yes, a 4.69 second 40 yard dash from a 280 pounder!

The buzz kept going in a positive manner for Brandon and at the conclusion of the combine his name was always one of the first mentioned when the staff talked about some of the most memorable prospects on Saturday. Thomas informed me that he'll be playing a great deal of tight end this year for the Cavaliers. "Yeah I will be playing mostly tight end this year. They will have some sets where I'll move back inside to the line."

Thomas and his Cavalier teammates are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with Spring practice set to begin on Monday. After a long day of strenuous testing and being put through the paces at various individual drilling stations Thomas quickly got to the food to nourish his body. More coaches continued to rave about the Dorman prospect and how his numbers were on par and even better than some of the wide receivers and running backs in attendance. (Times were slow due to the condition of the turf)

So after the quick meal Thomas and I headed back to the Palmetto State. The youngster took a well deserved nap along the journey back home. My phone continued to ring continuously it seemed. Scout.com staffers were all calling to talk about some of the heavy hitters that we brought up to Charlotte. "Your South Carolina guys looked really great today. You did a great job finding some unbelievable prospects who put up some awesome testing numbers!" After arriving back at Dorman to drop him off I thought he'd be headed home to go to sleep. Wrong. "I have an AAU basketball game to play in at 8 tonight." Hard workers rarely stop to rest and Thomas is determined to be one of the very best in not only the state but the entire nation.

Many of those guys will be getting offers here soon after some of their performances on Saturday. We will have a complete story about some of the biggest stock risers from Saturday's combine but rest assured Brandon Thomas will be one of the biggest movers and shakes in SCPrepNation.com's state rankings which will be released in the coming week and also in the Scout.com Top 300 as well.

Note: I expect Brandon Thomas will be moved to 4 stars soon.
