Jamal Curry Q&A
Porter-Gaud School
Class of 2009
6'8 190 pounds

KF: What schools are you hearing from currently?
JC: I don't have too many yet but, I can recall some of them. Charleston Southern (offer), Tulsa, Penn State, UT-Chattanooga, Citadel, Furman, Wofford, Presbyterian College, Cornell University, Coastal Carolina, Elon University, and Binghamton University.

KF: Which ones are coming after you the hardest?
JC: I would have to say Charleston Southern and Furman.

KF: Is it true that you've only been playing basketball for one season?
JC: Yeah it is. This is my first year ever playing for a high school team. I am getting used to the game more and more every game I play though.

KF: What do you feel are the strongest parts of your game at this point?
JC: I try to be really active on defense. My rebounding is getting better too. I've been working on my ballhandling, hoping to elevate my game to the point where I can play outside as well. For a post player I have a reliable jump shot and I can knock down the three as well. My low block scoring is pretty good as well. I'm also a verbal leader for my team.

KF: What areas are you working on the most to improve?
JC: I have been really working on gaining weight and ballhandling. My coach/uncle has been working really hard with my ballhandling and outside game. I am trying to become more mobile on the court so that I can be a factor in many ways.

KF: Has it been tough for you to adjust so quickly becoming a highly recruited prospect and playing big time AAU basketball?
JC: In all honesty it has been a little tough, but that is what I expected. I just learn things every game and use it to my advantage.

KF: Talk a little bit about your best games last season.
JC: My best game was against Fort Dorchester. I had 17 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and 1 turnover. This game is so memorable because it was at my old high school and the people there were taunting me and trying to take me out of my game. Little did they know they gave me the mindset that I needed to get the job done. My second best game was against Pinewood Prep in the state championship game. I had 12 points and 10 rebounds. I just remember me and Milton Jennings fighting every play against each other, verbally and physically.

KF: What were your averages from last season?
JC: I averaged 9 points and 9 rebounds.

KF: What team was the toughest for you last year?
JC: Gonzaga was the toughest team we played.

KF: Who are the toughest players you've gone up against so far in your career?
JC: John Wall, Milton Jennings, Ryan Kelly, DaShonte Riley, Kenny Hall, and Mason Plumlee.

KF: How do you feel AAU ball has been going so far for you?
JC: I think it has been going great for me. I have been getting a lot of exposure and I have been getting better and better I feel.

KF: What factors are going to be the most important for you when picking a college?
JC: I would have to say coaching staff, location, education, and playing time.
