We saw it starting almost a year ago. Khris Middleton had all the tools and makings of a big time scorer and tremendous size and length at the shooting guard position. A little over a year later he became one of the hottest prospects in not only the southeast region but the nation in the 2009 class. Yesterday he decided it was time to give a verbal commitment and seal the deal.
The knock previously was that he's too one dimensional and thin. Consider this, he's still very young for his 2009 class and has plenty of time to mature physically. He continues to work hard in the weight room to increase his strength and add some mass to his frame. Various schools began showing up at open gym workouts last season. Not all were huge schools but he had definitely generated some tremendous buzz for himself as Porter-Gaud School had never seen that kind of attention on a regular basis.
Yesterday Khris decided that he had found the place where he wanted to spend his college career at, Texas A&M. 24 hours after giving his commitment Middleton sat down and spoke at length about his decision. Why Texas A&M you ask? "I really love the coaching staff and the school is great. It's the best place for me."
He also talked about what he loved so much about what College Station and coach Mark Turgeon had to offer. "I just like the way they play. They need a scorer and I think I can fit that position. I think I can help them out and play well over the next four years. Coach Turgeon and his staff can take me to the next level."
He recently made an unoffical visit to College Station and it won't be long before he's back on campus apparently. "I'm taking a trip back out there for their Elite Camp from June 14th through the 16th." Given the fact that he still has the rest of the summer AAU circuit and his senior season ahead of him we had to ask just how strong he was with his decision to A&M. "I'm 100% committed to them. I am strong with Texas A&M." Schools may continue to chase and actively recruit Middleton but it's apparent that he's found his home for the four years of his college career.
After not getting a lot of respect outside of the state until almost a year ago and now blowing up with attention from high major D1 programs throughout the entire nation Middleton said, "It feels great. I'm enjoying it a lot." The 2009 prospect quickly replied however, "I still want to improve all aspects of my game but I will be working hard on my defensive footspeed the hardest. I will also continue to diversify my game and work on my driving ability and pull-ups. I want to continue to work hard on becoming a better all around natural scorer."
Being a solid verbal to the Aggies what can the Aggie faithful expect from Khris Middleton? We asked the source himself and he said, "They can expect a great four years of college from me and the team."
Note: Khris gave his verbal commitment to Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon personally yesterday over the telephone. CHECK OUT VIDEO OF MIDDLETON IN ACTION BY CLICKING THE LINK BELOW.
