Jamal Curry Profile

Most big men on the hardwood don't want to experience any sort of knee discomfort but the obvious truth is that eventually everyone has to go through it. Jamal Curry is one of the brightest young prospects in the 2009 class and the Porter-Gaud standout has been going through some issues with discomfort in his knees lately. Before you go thinking in a negative manner Curry's knee pain is due to a good reason as Porter-Gaud head coach John Pearson informed us.

"I knew something was going on. His knees have been giving him a lot of pain in recent weeks. The last time that happened, he grew a few inches. Well, I measured him and sure enough, he's 6'9 now."

Things have picked up for Curry with his recruitment lately as well Pearson informed us. "He just visited Elon. He had a great visit meeting the coaches and touring the campus. He's going to go to the Citadel this week. He also met with coaches at Furman the other weekend. They have asked for Jamal's SAT scores. He played very well during their camp. He's more than just a back to the basket player now. He's been working on his open court ballhandling and getting his own shot off from one on one moves from the perimeter. He is really becoming a more complete player."

Those of you unfamiliar with Curry's story will be surprised to know that last season was his first season of organized basketball. You don't really want to call him "green" but his upside is off the charts if a program is willing to help shape and mold him as he is obviously continuing to still grow. Pearson says he took Curry to an orthopedic specialist and had the knees x-rayed. "His knees are fine. They are just sore. His growth plates are still open so they will be sore until they close. He expects him to grow a few more inches."

In a day and age where athletic big men are a premium commodity you can expect Jamal Curry's interest and stock to continue to rise as his skillset continues to grow as rapidly as he does.
