NOTES
-According to sources, Byrnes fared well enough in SPARQ testing that they set a new team record nationally and win Nike's national team competition. As the winning team there was talk of not only new uniforms for the team but the chance that the Rebels will be starring in an upcoming commercial as well. We will have a more in-depth look at how some of the top scorers from Byrnes and other schools in attendance fared with their SPARQ testing tomorrow.
-Got a chance to see Cornelius Jones of Spartanburg High for the first time. A heck of an athlete who fits the mold of what Rich Rodriguez likes in his quarterbacks. Conflicting reports say he has an offer from Michigan already while others say no offer has been extended. I will confirm tomorrow with coach Freddie Brown and Jones in a quick update.
-The Byrnes fanbase was anxious to lay eyes on North Gwinnett as they ousted Byrnes in Alabama a few weeks ago after the Rebels defeated them twice en route to their loss to NG in the championship game. I was impressed with them. They may not wow you from a physical standpoint like Byrnes does but they are well coached and their athletes run good routes. Both teams are undefeated early on...could we be looking at a rematch or two here soon?
-The first game I watched was Byrnes "A" versus Wilson High. It pitted AAAA Division 1 state champions versus AAA state champions. Wilson had their moments but its obvious they haven't seen a team of Byrnes caliber when it comes to passing with Byrnes winning 35-8. We loved Wilson's determination to learn and get better from the game though.
-Spartanburg has jumped out to a 3-0 mark so far. I watched a little bit of Freddie Brown's team against Robert E. Lee and after I left they apparently turned it up another level winning 31-11. Vikings fans should be pleased to hear their team is off to a great start.
-Another team off to a solid start is Hillcrest. Andy Hallman's team caught one on the chin versus North Gwinnett in their first game but came back and won convincingly versus Atlee High (VA) and escaped Woodruff with a one point win. They are picking up steam and are getting big plays from almost everyone they brought offensively. Great to see the distribution of the football.
-Lower Richland also got busy on Thursday with a 3-0 record thus far. I haven't seen much of them prior to today's event but I watched them twice today. They've got some players and came up big in the clutch against Broome pulling out a last second victory. I will have more tomorrow on LRHS.
-Woodruff's record may be 1-2 but they have been one of the team's I've enjoyed watching the most thus far. New head coach Brian Lane has the offense clicking and they almost pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament only to fall to North Gwinnett 22-21. In fact all of the Wolverines' games have been decided by just 1 point each time so far. Lane has some playmakers and the Wolverines folks....are back!!! It will be fun to watch them progress this season...lots of scoring in Woodruff this season.
-Broome has struggled with consistency but they should hold their heads high losing in the last seconds to Lower Richland. At 1-1-1 they very well could have been 2-1. We will take a long look at the Centurions tomorrow.

FUN FACTS
-Byrnes "A" has scored the most points in a single game 45 and allowed the fewest points, 2. Both marks came against R.J. Reynolds High of NC.
-Lower Richland has put up the most points thus far with 114 points while Byrnes "A" is second with 108 points.
