Everyone had expected that the Carvers Bay Bears to be tucked in their dens, preparing for hibernation at this time of the year, but surprisingly, the Bears are still in the hunt for their first ever football state championship.
In their third year of existence, the Carvers Bay Bears have yet to reach beyond the quarterfinals of the Class AA State Playoffs.
Each year, the Bears advance into the playoffs but draw the unfortunate bracket, facing powerhouse teams such as Silver Bluff and Pageland Central early in the playoff season.
This year, the Bears have glided past Lee Central and Jasper County, allowing only 8 points total in those two playoff games.
If the Bears win Friday vs. Central , the team they were eliminated by last year in the first round 8-6, then the Bears will face the winner of the Mullins/Cheraw game.
