4 Offers For Beaufort CB Jimmy Legree

For the past couple of seasons Beaufort standout CB Jimmy Legree has been on the proverbial recruiting radar. With his senior season just around the corner the 2009 standout spoke with SCPrepNation.com to talk recruiting, his senior season, and who his early leaders are in the chase to land his commitment. Come inside for the latest with Beaufort's Jimmy Legree.

Fresh off a visit to Williams-Brice Stadium last season where his squad came up just short in the AAAA Division 2 title game against Clover Beaufort CB Jimmy Legree remains one of the top cornerback prospects in the state. With his senior season almost here we caught up with Legree to discuss the state of his recruitment, how his summer has been thus far, plans for this coming season, and what he's looking for in a potential college.

Last season Jimmy posted 65 tackles, 6 interceptions, and had 10 pass deflections as a junior. Despite the heartbreaking loss to Clover there were many bright spots in a strong season by Legree and his Beaufort squad. For Jimmy though one game stood out as his brightest a year ago. "In the playoffs against Berkeley High. I had 4 tackles and 1 interception. It was so memorable because when I caught the interception it basically sealed the deal and we advanced to the state championship game."

College have been keeping a close eye on Legree as Beaufort has produced plenty of college talent over the years. Asked what schools were currently in the mix for him he replied, "South Carolina, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Buffalo, Presbyterian, Maryland, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Duke, North Carolina, and North Carolina State." Currently he holds offers from four of those programs. "I have offers from South Carolina, Buffalo, Vanderbilt, and Presbyterian. Out of all those schools I'd say South Carolina, Buffalo, and Vanderbilt are coming after me the hardest right now."

As a high major D1 prospect Legree has the talent to add more offers in the near future. Blessed with nice frame and good speed more and more schools have been staying in regular contact with him as of late. "One of my biggest strengths is that I have the ability to go and get the ball. I'd say that along with my leaping ability and long arms."

Legree continues to work on all facets of his game on the gridiron but one area is an emphasis for him this offseason. "My footwork." In terms of competition playing in AAAA he's seen some of the best available in the state but one player in particular he regards as the toughest he's faced to date. "A.J. Green was the toughest. He has great hands and the height to go with it." With next season a little over a month away Legree talked about a game in particular that he's looking forward to playing. "The Fort Dorchester game. We play them the third week and I look forward to stopping their momentum early in the season."

Thus far he hasn't been on any unofficial visits but that will change today as he plans to make a one day camp at South Carolina. With an offer in hand there's a chance Legree could give the Gamecocks a commit. "I'll talk it over with my mother first. I'm looking for a school with a great business education program, a great environment, and overall the people and the coaches."

"Right now my top 5 are South Carolina, Buffalo, NC State, Wake Forest, and Georgia."

Jimmy reports a 3.5 GPA in the classroom and is ranked 86th out of 385 students in his graduating class.
