UP NEXT: 2009 Stratford CB/SS Johnny King

The Stratford Knights lost quite a few key players from last year's team due to graduation. Having that being said, they are looking for a few individuals to step up and contribute this fall. One particular player that should fit the bill is CB/SS Johnny King. Come inside and learn more about the talented '09 prospect from Goose Creek, SC.

After finishing last season in mediocre fashion, the Knights will be looking for several ways to increase their numbers in the win column this fall. One athlete that should help the cause is CB/SS Johnny King.

King currently stands at 5-11, and weighs in right around the 177-183 pound range. He clocks a (high) 4.5 consistently in the forty-yard dash, and reports a 35 inch vertical. King also posts an impressive set of numbers in the weight room. "I bench press 320 pounds right now," King said. "I squat 470 pounds. I actually broke our school record in the squat category for DBs this year at the state weight lifting competition."

We asked the rising senior to give us a little insight on how things went for him on last fall. "Last season I played a little bit of corner and strong safety," King said. "Towards the end of the season I started playing a lot of corner. I had 62 total tackles, 3TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack, and 1 interception."

Although King had a strong showing on the field last fall, he's been working on a few things in order to take his game to the next level this fall. King talks about one particular area of his game that he's been focusing/working on during the off-season. "One of my weakest points last year was trying to get off blocks against bigger players like tight ends and fullbacks," King said. "I had to do that a lot playing at strong safety in our defense."

"When I was talking to my position's coach, he was telling me that I needed to play more physical this year," King continued. "So I continuously worked hard in the weight room, and was able to see the results during spring practice this year. It left my position's coach pretty happy."

On the recruiting front, King does not claim any offers to date. However though, more than a few schools have been expressing interest in him. "I've been getting letters from all sorts of schools," King said. "I've been getting letters from CSU, The Citadel, Appalachian State, Maryland, Virginia, Clemson, South Carolina, and several others."

King told SCPrepNation.com that he's not sure who'll be the first to step up to the plate with an offer. However, should anything interesting take place in the near future, you can rest assure that we will let you know.
