One such case would be Wilson High QB Richard Cue. The 2009 prospect has accomplished a feat few can claim on the high school level in winning a state championship last year in the AAA ranks. What made the victory so sweet was the fact that their opponents Chester High School was favored by almost everyone except those pulling for the Tigers of Wilson High. Boasting a plethora of D1 prospects Chester found the going tough against the Wilson crew. Cue put forth a nice effort catching the eye of a few Scout.com analysts in attendance including myself. We sat down with Cue recently to talk about his recruitment or shall we say lack of thus far in an exclusive interview.
Having had a strong season last year culminating in the state championship you would think schools would be showing Cue some interest on the recruiting front. "I'm not hearing from anybody at all." Cue however realize that he was a party crasher to the high school football world last season. "Last season was a breakout season for me! I had 1,111 yards passing, 327 yards rushing, 12 passing touchdowns, and 11 rushing touchdowns."
At 6'0 177 pounds we are projecting Cue to get some looks at cornerback on the next level or as an athlete. Being a quarterback we think he would be a great cornerback in making the transition. Cue says runs a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash and made strides in the weight room as well. "I bench 235, squat 350, and have posted a 34" vertical."
This offseason has been a busy one for Cue and his Wilson teammates participating in a number of 7 on 7's and the goal is all about getting better in hopes of repeating as state champions. "I've been working real hard on being better at reading coverages. The 7 on 7's have been a great experience for me. We are working hard and our goal is to go back to state."
Although he may not be hearing from schools yet Cue knows what he'll be looking for in picking a school. "The biggest things for me will be academics, the coaching staff, and the football program." Asked if he had to list a group of favorites that he's most interested in at this point he said, "I like Texas, Appalachian State, Illinois, Florida, and Georgia Southern."
We will have more updates with Richard Cue as the season quickly approaches as well as video highlights of Cue in action so stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com the leader in SC high school football and basketball recruiting coverage.
