Byrnes WR Jazz King Continues To Up The Ante

2010 Byrnes WR Isaiah "Jazz" King has bursted on the scene this offseason after a solid showing late last year as a sophomore. During 7 on 7's and combine performances this offseason King has emerged as a big time weapon for the Rebels' passing game. We caught up with King for a FREE premium update about his offseason to this point.

Isaiah King Profile

In the past decade if you're a wide receiver for Byrnes you're loving life as the Rebels employ one of the state's top aerial attacks. Coming off another state championship the cupboard is quite full for the Rebels and one youngster who made a significant jump on the recruiting radar since the end of last season is 2010 wideout Isaiah "Jazz" King. Jazz came on strong down the stretch last season for the varsity after putting in work for the JV squad early on.

The 2010 prospect has carried that momentum over to the offseason where he's torched opponents and tested extremely well on the combine circuit. The results? More and more schools continue to express early interest in King's talents. SCPrepNation.com caught up with King for an exclusive update.

King unlike many other prospects was eager to talk about how well his grades are first, something which is quite refreshing in this day and age. "My new GPA is 3.796 and my class rank is 77th out of 552." College coaches should take note as he's tracking up the recruiting radar due to improvements on the gridiron as well.

"I have upped my stats since the last time we spoke too. I'm 6'0.5 and 178 pounds now. I've increased all of my maxes in the weight room too. I'm at 240 pounds on the bench press, 410 pounds on squat, power cleaning 255 pounds, and posted a 35.7 inch vertical. I also ran a laser timed 4.44 second 40 and the shuttle (pro agility) in 3.99 seconds."

The Rebels have been busy with various passing tournaments including their own almost a month ago. King talked about those outings and experiences. "We just got back from Oregon a few weeks ago. Our record was 1-5 but we could have easily been 5-1 we played some great teams and all the games came down to wire with the exception of the Plant game. I lead us in touchdowns in Oregon. The experience was great and we came away with a lot of memories. Nike invited us back next year so we have to work so we can have a better showing and just compete. I was second in touchdowns in the Byrnes 7 on 7 and second at the North Alabama Elite despite missing the first game waiting on the trainers. We have competed in 7 on 7's and it has been good but I am ready to get the pads on. I want it, so I am still working hard everyday in practice and the weight room."

Given his ability to make the tough catches and breakaway speed King will be another threat for QB Chas Dodd to consider this season to go along with Ricco Sanders, Nick Jones, and Torian Richardson. Expect big things from the entire Byrnes corps as they'll have another season of letting the ball fly on a regular basis come Friday nights. You can also expect Jazz King to be on the receiving end of some dazzling touchdowns as well so stay tuned.
