Like Father, Like Sons...

On last Friday, Marlboro County standout, Tariq Edwards (pictured), brought his early recruitment to a close by giving his verbal pledge to Virginia Tech University. Approximately one week later, his twin brother Tyrell followed suit by deciding to join the Hokies himself. SCPrepNation.com caught up with the gifted set of twins to get their latest thoughts on their recent decisions.

As expected, Tariq and Tyrell Edwards will be suiting up for Coach Beamer and the Virginia Tech Hokies to continue their football careers on the next level. Tariq was the first of the two to make his decision publicly known on last Friday. The 6-4, 225 pound athlete filled us in on a few factors that influenced his decision. "The school overall, and the academics are very good at Virginia Tech," Tariq said. "But the most important factor is the family environment out there. The coaches at VT really give you a family touch to let you know that you'll be taken care of while you're out there."

After Tariq had given his verbal pledge to the Hokies, several were expecting for his brother Tyrell (pictured) to commit shortly thereafter. However though, that wasn't the case. The 6-4, 220 pound stud waited another week before coming to the conclusion that Blacksburg was where he wanted to be. Tyrell explains… "I actually waited a little while before committing because NC State had offered me a pretty good deal, and I just wanted to make sure that I was making the right decision for myself," Tyrell said. "That was pretty much the main reason why we didn't commit at the same time."

Although quite a few other programs were under consideration for their services, the opportunity to play together seemed too good for the twins to pass up. "It's going to be real good playing together in college with my brother," Tariq said. "But, if Tyrell had picked another school, I was going to hit him just as hard as I would hit any other player (laughing)… But seriously, it's a good feeling knowing that we're going to be playing in college together."

Now that their decisions are final, the Marlboro County High twins will also have an opportunity to be a part of the same university that their father, Bo Campbell, attended back in the late 80's/early 90's. "It's going to be real good playing for the same school that our father played for back in the days," Tyrell said. "We've been going up there with our dad since we were little. I think it's going to help us out a lot in the long run because of our familiarity with the program."

The Hokies are recruiting Tariq as an OLB/DE, while his brother Tyrell is being recruited as an athlete. However, Tyrell has a good feeling that he'll either see time at linebacker or tight end. The twins are expected to report to Virginia Tech in January of 2010 and are expected to take a greyshirt.
