The Lake View Gators: 2002 in Review

The Gators suffered a season-opener loss to the Dillon Wildcats, who will also be in action this Friday night. The Gators have been on the hunt since then with explosive wins over Johnsonville, Latta, and Hannah-Pamplico. The Gators are notorious for winning traditions...the last time the Gators weren't in post-season play was in the 70's. Another tradition is that the Gators have a feast every Wednesday night after a win the previous Friday. This week's feast will be turkey and hawks, and if all goes as planned... the Gators will be feasting their eyes on some Lamar Silver Foxes or Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes.

The Gators will depend on their leading rusher Vernell Jones to outscore Blacksville-Hilda. Jones has rushed for 1728 yards and 27 touchdowns. With those kind of numbers, you can only imagine how great their offense is. The Gators Offense is rated #1 in the Pee Dee with 412 points. The Lake View Defense manage to live up to their side of the ball, allowing only 119 points all season.

How these two teams got thus far

The Lake View Gators defeated Lincoln 54-0 in the first round. Then, they beat Denmark-Olar 36-12. Finally, the Gators defeated Pee Dee area team, Hemingway 6-0 to advance into the semi-final round.

The Blacksville-Hilda Hawks shutout Elloree 44-0 to advance into the next round. There, they eliminated the Latta Vikings with a 24-7 win. Last week, they handed Johnsonville a 27-10 loss.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Lamar/Calhoun Falls match-up next weekend at Williams-Brice Stadium for the SCHSL Class A State Championship.
