  • 2009 Dorman ATH/S Walt Canty should receive a great first offer very soon from North Carolina State we believe. NC State assistant Jim Bridge was in attendance Friday night for Dorman's game versus Greenwood High and was applauding Canty throughout the night. Canty's efforts so far this season have been Herculean and schools are more than likely going to fall in love with his playmaking abilities on the field after 3 games. Check out the exclusive video of Canty in action versus Greenwood High School.
  • 2010 Greenwood DT Kelcy Quarles may have sat out the game versus Dorman but he's snapping up scholarship offers just as fast as fellow 2010 prospects Marcus Lattimore, Brandon Willis, and Corey Miller. Check out the video interview with Quarles as he recites his who's who list of offers early in the recruiting phase. Quarles was out due to a concussion this week but says he'll be suiting up next week versus Lexington.
  • You have to love what Southside WR Chris Rhodes has done so far this season. Friday he caught 10 passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns in another victory for his squad. Chris says Alabama State has offered and is interested in having him either on the gridiron or the basketball court as a point guard. His numbers are near the top for the entire state in terms of catches and receiving yards. He didn't test well in the 40 yard dash at the UA/Scout.com combine with it being his first experience but he's a gamebreaker and has some of the best hands we've seen in recent years. We have seen Rhodes run a 4.6 in the 40 which is more than adequate considering how well he runs his routes and always seems to find the openings a defense gives him.
  • We can't mention Rhodes without mentioning his Southside teammate WR/ATH Marlin Butler. The two are pretty much having a battle each week trying to see who's going to grab the most touchdowns each week. So far they've both been scoring at least 2 or more touchdowns each week so we believe. Rhodes is "Mr. Reliable Hands" for the most part while Butler is "Mr. Explosive". Why? He ran 4 times Friday for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 5 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. North Carolina, Clemson, Alabama, Presbyterian, and Newberry are all in regular contact with Butler. As of right now Newberry is the only school to offer Butler with 10 touchdowns already on the young season his ability to find paydirt should up the ante from college coaches in the near future.
  • Dorman TE/OL Brandon Thomas is verbally committed to Clemson but interestingly enough he said he'll be visiting South Carolina today to see the Gamecocks take on Georgia. We don't think Brandon is going to change his mind but he says he will continue to visit other schools along with Clemson throughout the season. Thomas had some bonecrushing blocks against Greenwood and you have to focus on him to appreciate the work he does at the fullback and tight end spots for Dorman's offense. He is definitely one of the premier jumbo athletes SC has seen in recent years.
  • On a basketball note 2011 SF/SG Damien Leonard will also be in Columbia visiting Darrin Horn's Gamecocks during the Georgia football game. Leonard is being pressed hard by both South Carolina and Clemson, and deservedly so. He's still our #1 prospect in the state for 2011 and he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down and making noise nationally after a good offseason on the AAU circuit. If he continues to work on his midrange game and ballhandling he's got National top 50 written all over him I feel. He obviously needs to get stronger but that will come with maturity. Still his bread and butter is that perimeter game and he's one of the southeast deadliest shooters regardless of class.
  • Dorman CB Taylor Sowell says Duke and Vanderbilt are recruiting him the hardest at the moment right now. The one time UNC commit didn't get much action his way last night versus Greenwood but definitely check out his highlight tapes, he hits like a big safety or linebacker.
  • We're going to stick with Southside High once again as 2010 QB Justin Goldsmith is putting together a monstrous season in terms of statistics. Friday he was 23-34 for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns. Goldsmith at this point looks like a solid D2 prospect only due to his lack of size but given some weapons at receiver he can make the passes necessary to run a team very well. We'll see if he has a growth spurt and adds some more muscle/weight to his frame between now and next season. We'll have a recruiting update with Goldsmith soon so stay tuned.
  • Due to a technical mishap within the media department, CB Nick Carson of Hanahan HS was unable to get out his junior season highlight tape during some of the most crucial recruiting periods. However, that has not stopped him from receiving attention from some of the top programs across the country. The 6-1, 185 pound corner has been recently hearing from schools like Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, South Florida, and South Carolina just name a few. We are certain that the offers will start coming in once Carson's senior highlight film starts to circulate.
  • We saw Berea in the preseason and they had a few players with potential but 2 players emerged Friday night in a huge way. RB Davion Gambrell burst onto the scene with 26 carries for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns while cornerback Alex Bailey helped lock down the airways defensively with 4 interceptions on the night. We'll keep a close eye on Gambrell and Bailey from here on out to see if they can repeat some of their success from Friday night.
  • Speaking of multiple interceptions, last year's state leader in INTs, 2010 S/WR DeAndre Hopkins was at it again Friday versus Westside. Hopkins had 3 interceptions and a blocked PAT to give the Lions a 21-20 win over the Rams. Hopkins also caught a long TD from QB Justin Walker. The last time we spoke to Hopkins his only offer was a verbal offer from Clemson. Still many BCS schools are constantly staying in touch with Hopkins and we'll see if anyone else has decided to extend an offer along with the Tigers.
  • South Carolina commit, Aldrick Fordham, has simply been a terror on the defensive of the ball this season. The 6-4, 235 pound monster DE has recorded 10 sacks on the season thus far. Although Fordham made his commitment publicly known over the summer, the 4-star prospect has been getting a tug from Clemson and Tennessee. Nevertheless, the Timberland High star confirmed that he is still committed to the Gamecocks 100%.
  • OL Daniel Berg of Goose Creek High has been steadily drawing attention from a number of college programs throughout the southeast. In fact, the 6-8, 340 pound monster OL is expecting his first offer from Wofford College any day now. With a 3.6 GPA inside the classroom, Berg has also been receiving a bunch of letters from a number of Ivy League schools.
  • Just got a message from 2010 Byrnes DE Corey Miller. He just received an official offer from the South Carolina Gamecocks. It should be interesting to see how many more schools will join the Corey Miller sweepstakes as he's pushing hard towards a dozen and possibly twenty before his junior season is over.
