3-Star LB Mtshali Moves & Visits Planned

Former RNE stud SLB Jamal Mtshali moves to a new school in hopes to spark continued interest as one of the breakout stars from the offseason combine circuit. At 6'2 230 pounds Mtshali is one of the most athletic linebackers you'll find in the country. Now he's hoping to showcase it at a new school to try and land that crucial first scholarship offer. Come inside for the latest.

Jamal Mtshali Profile

It's been quite a journey for SLB Jamal Mtshali. Formerly at Richland Northeast High, Mtshali has since moved and taken his talents to a new school and a new state. Mtshali spoke with Scout.com to talk about his outlook for the near future at his new school.

"I'm now at Northwood High in Maryland. The coach is great and he's come to know a lot of college coaches over the years. He has a solid reputation for showing coaches legit recruits." Mtshali is thankful for his opportunities and hopes to continue to open up eyes as he's currently the #23 rated SLB in the country according to Scout.com.

Mtshali burst onto the scene with a couple of jawdropping performances at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combines in Charlotte and Baltimore this offseason. Running a 4.69 second 40 on a slow surface, broad jumping 10 feet 1 inch, and leaping an absurd 42 inches on the vertical Mtshali is not the guy opposing quarterbacks want to see standing across the line of scrimmage threatening to blitz.

In fact following Friday night's Northwood game Mtshali said he met with an ACC coach who was in attendance. "I met coach Dave Sollazzo of Maryland after the game. He's their recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach. He was impressed enough with me to invite me to their game on Saturday."

"We went on the visit Saturday to see Maryland play against Eastern Michigan. I was shown around to all of their facilities and ate lunch as well. I was impressed with the entire atmosphere overall."

The visits won't end there though Mtshali informed us. "My coach says he will be taking me on visits over the next several weekends to Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia." Mtshali hopes that he will receive his first offer soon as he's determined to showcase he's indeed worthy of his 3-star status and combine testing numbers.
