We were the first to tell you about outstanding 2009 LB/S Brett Johnson and in a matter of months his recruitment took off in a big way. After a few games into his senior season the North Augusta High prospect holds a couple of scholarship offers and will be making more school visits in the near future.
Brett's most recent offer came from Buffalo University. He has been in close contact with Colorado University since his visit last July and their linebackers coach, Brian Cabral, came out last Friday to North Augusta to talk with coach Pippin. He then attended the game at Dutch Fork to watch Brett play.
Johnson will be flying out early Saturday to Colorado to attend the Buffaloes' homecoming game versus the Texas Longhorns. This will be an unofficial visit and Brett was invited to join the team pregame, on the sidelines, and in the locker room afterwards.
There remains a number of schools in the mix for Brett's possible commitment. He is receiving mail and phone calls from Middle Tennessee State, Elon, Presbyterian (offer), and Wofford (who has told Brett he was their top defensive recruit). The visit to Colorado won't be Johnson's first as he's already made a few trips earlier this season. He went on an unofficial to Middle Tennessee State last month for the Maryland game in whiche MTSU won. Johnson plans to go to Buffalo and Air Force later this month.
There was a minor setback for Johnson prior to the season opener as he suffered a slight foot injury and had some minor surgery. The injury did not cause him to miss a game however as he is healed 100% now.
Johnson continues to maintain a tremendous 3.983 GPA in the classroom as well which also makes him such a highly sought after recruit. We will speak with Johnson to talk about each of the schools he's currently interested in the most so stay tuned for part 2 of this article.
