A little over 2 weeks ago we told you first about 2010 CB Zach Miller of Byrnes High School. Mr. Miller got some good news today from another Mr. Miller, Byrnes head coach Chris Miller. Things obviously happened fairly quickly for the young CB prospect and we have the exclusive scoop here.
"They called Coach Miller and told him they were offering me." "They" being the North Carolina Tar Heels. An excited Miller was somewhat caught off guard as well by the news of his first scholarship offer.
"I was really surprised. You said things would develop for me but I didn't think it would happen this fast. I know UNC has a pretty good offense with some nice receivers. I'm not real familiar with their defensive secondary yet but I will be soon hopefully."
Soon could be this coming weekend as Miller says he would really like to visit Chapel Hill to see just what the Tar Heels are looking like in person as they take on Boston College. "I would really like to get up there and check them out this weekend. I really want to see the campus. I don't have anything else planned either so it'd be great to get up there." A couple of his Byrnes teammates are also planning to make the trip already as well so the offer to Miller comes with great timing for the Heels.
Being his first scholarship offer will that weigh heavy in favor for the Tar Heels? "Oh yeah. It will definitely help them a lot. That first offer means a lot."
"I'm gonna wait it out and see who else is interested before I make a decision though."
Zach and his Byrnes teammates have a huge showdown looming this coming Friday against #2 Dorman who is also undefeated. With so many eyes locked in on the battle in Roebuck Friday night Miller talked about the game against the Cavaliers. "I think we're gonna be okay. If everybody handles their assignments and takes care of business then we should be able to beat them. Their offensive line is pretty good but I think our defensive line can match up with them."
The Cavaliers have been featuring mostly the run this season despite having 2011 budding superstar Charone Peake at wide receiver. With such a big time prospect at wideout could the Rebels expect mostly run as Dorman has shown most of the season? "I think they may have something up their sleeve. They may try something on us since they have run the ball so much so far this year."
The Tar Heels have been working the Palmetto State very diligently during the Butch Davis era. With Josh McKie of Mauldin High already verbally committed and a slew of offers on the table for players in the 2010 class don't be surprised if we see a few more prospects take a long, hard look at the Tar Heels.
