Rebels escape with the Div II Title

After completely dominating the first half the Rebels came out to a completely different Conway team to start the second.

Here is a summary of the game highlights:

 

Byrnes vs. Conway

 

            With the temp dropping rapidly through the fourties and headed for a low in the twenties the Byrnes Rebels took the field just prior to 7pm for their pregame warm-ups.

  

Byrnes takes the opening kickoff and drives down the field on the strength of a 48 yard pass reception by Terrell Allen that took the ball down to the Conway one yard line. Two plays later Guy Fowlkes takes it in for the touchdown. Extra point made it 7-0 Byrnes with just under ten minutes left in the first quarter.

 

On Conways first possession they took the ball and marched to the Byrnes 44. Facing a critical 4 and inches, the Tigers lined up and were soundly stopped by the Byrnes defense.

 

On the ensuing drive the Rebels stall at the Conway 16 with 3:33 left in the first and have to settle for a field goal and a 10-0 lead.

 

Byrnes quickly responds with a touchdown drive of two plays and thirty seven yards on a 33 yard pass from Justin Fulbright to Bradley Robinson

 

First quarter ends with Byrnes up 17-0 and Conway driving on their own 41.

 

Conway scores on a nine yard run by Melvin Singleton Extra point is good and Conway roars back to make it 17-7 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

 

Byrnes responds almost immediately on a 63 yard TD pass from Fulbright to Robinson

Score now 24-7 Byrnes

 

Conway is stopped cold on the next drive and after the punt the Rebels take over at their own 42.

 

Byrnes cannot move the ball on the next possession and is forced to punt. Conway gets a big break and Markie McQueen blocks it and the Tigers take over on the Rebel 22 with 7:05 left in the half.

 

Four plays later Conway scores on a one yard plunge by Bobby Wallace

 

Score now 24-14 Byrnes with 5:15 left in the half

 

Byrnes scores 5 plays later on a 41 yard pass from Fulbright to Bradley Robinson

 

Score now 31-14 Byrnes.

 

Conway forced to punt with 2:03 remaining in the half.

 

Byrnes fails to move and turns to ball over to Conway at the Tiger 37 with 8 seconds left in the half

 

First half ends with Byrnes leading 31-14.

 

Justin Fulbright ends the first half completing 15 of 23 passes for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns.

 

Conway takes to opening kickoff and starts from their own 24.

 

Tigers forced to punt and the Rebels take over on their own 46.

 

Fulbright hits Jomar Wright for a gain of 37. Rebels have a first and ten at the Tiger 17.

 

Byrnes stalls and settles for a 32 yard field goal by Brian Sanchez to make it 34-17 with 6:14 left in the third.

 

Conway scores on a 4th and a foot on a 13 yard run by Melvin Singleton
