It's hard to argue with a 8 game winning streak and the J.L. Mann Patriots have come on strong this season after losing to a powerful South Pointe squad to start their season. Now standing at 8-1 on the year the Patriots are enjoying one of their most successful seasons in recent memory. A big part of their success is 2009 DE Chris Taylor who helps anchor the Patriot defense. A couple of schools are keeping close tabs on Taylor as he's approaching some pretty signficant benchmarks statistically in his senior season.
Taylor shared with us the very latest regarding his recruitment. "I hear the most from Kentucky, Western Kentucky, South Carolina, South Carolina State, Colorado, and North Greenville. I have an offer from South Carolina State. All of them are recruiting me as a defensive end."
Taylor has made a visit to Lexington to check out the Wildcats of Kentucky and to nearby North Greenville. "I like how the people at UK and North Greenville treat prospects. Both campuses are real nice too. I will be visiting Western Kentucky later on this month."
With his team off to such a strong start in his senior season Taylor was more interested in talking about his team and not his individual accomplishments. "My goal is the same as everyone else's on the team, to win the region with this upcoming game against Greenville High." That game by game approach has worked well obviously for Taylor and his squad.
He talked at length about what's at stake this coming Friday against the Red Raiders of Greenville. "The game coming up against Greenville is real big. It's for the region title and it means a lot to us. We are very determined to win and be the first team to win region from J.L. Mann since 2001. Every coach told us that if we worked hard this summer that we'd be at this point right now. We did and this is what we wanted. We're up for the challege."
We asked Taylor what team was the toughest he's faced so far in 2008 and he quickly replied, "South Pointe. They are really good and I'm glad we played them because, that let us know just cause we beat BHP we weren't as good as we thought we were. Right now though we're really thankful to be in the position that we're in."
Taylor shed some light on how well he's done statistically during his senior season as well. "I have 11 sacks and 95 tackles right now."
