The last regular season game of your senior season is always one you want to remember. For Marlin Butler it was not only his last regular season game but senior night as well for his Southside Tigers. They took on rivals Carolina High on Friday and put a hurting on the Trojans 69-0.
On the offensive side of the ball Butler was given the night off for the most part as he had very limited touches. He rushed twice for 14 yards and caught a touchdown on his only catch of the game from 30 yards out.
Butler got after it on the defensive side of the ball and on special teams as well however. Showing off his talents as a marquee athlete Butler struck first as he scooped up a blocked field goal attempt and raced 70 yards for a touchdown. He then grabbed a Trojan fumble and raced 35 yards for another touchdown.
So in essence he touched the ball 3 times on offense and made enough plays on defense and special teams that he still managed to score 3 touchdowns on the night.
The Tigers finished the regular season 6-4 overall and 3-2 in region play. Their record placed them 2nd in the Appalachian AA standings after defeating both Broome and Chesnee prior to the Tigers. The return to the playoffs marks the first trip to postseason play since 1995 for the Southside program.
SCPrepNation.com will have more on Marlin Butler as he helps lead his team into the AA playoffs and as his recruitment continues to heat up. Stay tuned.
