Saturday is a huge day as 3 classifications will crown state champions. Byrnes is the most familiar face in the mix on Saturday and we caught up with their quarterback Chas Dodd to see just what his thoughts were heading into Saturday's game and an early look at his recruitment.
Checking in at 6'0 190 pounds Dodd has wowed crowds with his ability to guide the Rebels to a state title just a season ago as a sophomore. Now just a day away from playing in the big game again Dodd shed some light on how he's feeling heading into the contest against Sumter for the state's biggest prize. "This is what I've told everyone. I'm nervous right up to the first play of the game but I'm fine after that first play is over. I've been there before. I'm pretty familiar to it all so hopefully it'll be okay."
Having studied Sumter during the week on film and going over things with his coaches Dodd also talked about what he expects from the Gamecocks and his own Rebels come Saturday afternoon. "I think it's gonna be a good game. I think we're both good teams because we have made it this far. It's going to be a good atmosphere. It's gonna be good game for both teams and hopefully we can get in there and win it."
With such an impressive resume to his credit Dodd is starting to draw interest from a number of programs. "Let's see Virginia, Wake Forest, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Oregon are the main ones now. I get a lot of handwritten letters from Virginia and Wake Forest."
Currently Dodd doesn't hold any offers but continuing to rewrite the record books at a rapid pace one would expect that to change soon. Right now Dodd professes that he's wide open to anyone who wants to recruit him and his plans are to make a decision on Signing Day more than likely.
Dodd's numbers are indeed gaudy but one game in particular stands out for him he says in terms of statistics alone. "The game last year against Hillcrest. I had 476 yards passing and 4 touchdowns." He also thought back about some of the toughest opponents he's faced in his career as well. One name that often comes up when we pose the question came up once again. "J.B. Shippy of Gaffney was really good. We've played a lot of good teams and some of them are from out of state and I can't think of their names right now but I've played against some good ones so far."
So far Dodd has only made two visits and he talked a little bit about both schools. "I visited Clemson last year. It was nice. This year I also visited Virginia a few weeks back. Virginia has a good campus and I liked the atmosphere. It was a good opportunity to check things out even though they lost and it was cool to hang out with coach Beilin up there. I liked it a lot."
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Chas Dodd as his recruitment will only continue to get more and more hectic as he finishes his junior season and makes preparations for his senior season next year.
