FIRST HALF NOTES
First quarter ends scoreless with both teams trying to find their way early on.
South Pointe is enjoying some success in the second quarter with Gilmore finding seams and holes in the Northwestern defense for nice gains on the ground.
Stephon Gilmore's second touchdown run from 61 yards out was a thing of beauty. One of the most amazing runs in recent state championship history guys. We'll have video loaded courtesy of Scout.com media editor Miller Safrit later on so be sure to check out all of Miller's fantastic work bringing you photos and video from the Weekend of Champions.
Stephon Gilmore has piled up some nice stats in the first half with 14 carries for 98 yards and 2 TDs.
SECOND HALF NOTES
After a snap flew over the head of Northwestern QB/P Justin Worley during an attempted punt it lands in the hands of a South Pointe defender who races in from about 15 yards out for the touchdown. It makes the score 21-0 now.
This is our 3rd time seeing Northwestern 2011 QB Justin Worley. At 6'5 and 180 pounds it looks like he's got a strong chance to make some serious noise over the course of the next 2 seasons. Worley came in to tonight's game with 48 touchdowns on the season for the Trojans. We'll have a recruiting update with Justin soon so stay tuned.
Northwestern DT Gerald Dixon Jr. is continuing to show us that he will be a big timer in the 2011 class. He's in on a lot of plays and has made plenty by himself tonight for the Trojans. Upside continues to grow and grow. Expect things to get really hectic for him on the recruiting front in a hurry once his film circulates and he hits the camp/combine circuit this offseason.
Stephon Gilmore continues to dazzle the fans in the stands. He rushes for another spectacular touchdown run making a pair of Trojans miss him in the open field. Score is now 28-0 South Pointe.
Northwestern gets on the board with a touchdown pass from Justin Worley to Cordarrelle Patterson on a fade route. Patterson shows us that leaping ability as he goes up and over Devonte Holloman for the touchdown. 28-7 South Pointe with a little over 11 minutes left in the game.
South Pointe RB Quentin Darby is a player who already holds offers from both Clemson and South Carolina. The 2010 prospect is a good fit for the Stallions program with teammate Devin Wherry in the backfield but he'll get the bulk of the carries next year and we think he'll continue to pile up offers from what we've seen of his thus far. We'll have a more in-depth story and recruiting update with Darby soon so stay tuned.
The USC connection for the Stallions pays dividends as Gilmore finds WR Charles Holmes for a touchdown to push the lead to 35-7. All signs point to the Stallions completing a fairytale like season going undefeated and winning the state championship.
Stephon Gilmore finished the night with 20 carries 119 yards 3 TDs. He will be enrolling next month at South Carolina and he'll be more than likely lining up at cornerback for the Gamecocks. Looking at his film over the course of his career he should get some looks as a player either on offense or special teams with his ability to make plays and making people miss.
Congratulations to South Pointe but also to the Northwestern Trojans. The city of Rock Hill should also be proud as both teams represented them well. More to come from the SCPrepNation.com crew from Clemson over the course of the next 24 hours so stay tuned!
