SC Players Named Sports Illustrated All Americans

Once again the great state of South Carolina was honored as 2 of our own favorite players were named by Sports Illustrated to the first ever SI High School All American Team.

Running back Demetrius Summers from Lexington, SC was named a High School All American by the leader in Sports Magazines, Sports Illustrated. The speedster and all time leading rusher for the Wildcats was one of two RB honored with this prestigious award.

Summers (who was somehow not selected to the Shrine Bowl by Coach Ringer who had / has a political agenda) was selected along with Kregg Lumkin from Georgia as the top two RB in the entire country. Summers has rewritten the record book in South Carolina with an array of mind boggling numbers and has constantly been rated one of the top RB in the USA for the past 3 years.

For his career, "Meat" ran for over 11,100 All Purpose Yards and scored 133 touchdowns in 53 high school games. He rushed for over 9,000 yards in his 4 year career and finished his career with an austounding 10.44 yards per carry average.

Also honored by CNN and Sports Illustrated was the outstanding Offensive Linemen from Union High School, Eric Young.

The 6' 7" 278 pound senior offensive tackle was a major cog in the Yellow Jackets drive for a 4th straight trip to Columbia. Eric helped his team to a victory over Camden and a 3rd championship for the Jackets.  During his career at Union, Eric has played with many of the best players in SC, his hard work as a player has earned him the respect of all who have watched him play and all who have played against him.

For his career, Eric has won 3 state championships along with a runner up title. His 4 years at Union were among the most successful in the history of SC High School Football. Union has sported a 54-6 record during his four year and the Union High Class of 2003 is one of the best to ever play the game.

From all accounts Eric is a better young man than he is a football player. Coaches, teammates, fans and opponents all speak to his great sense of humor, his humility, his love of younger kids who see him as a hero and to his dedication to making himself a good person on and off the field.

We are excited and proud of both Demetrius and Eric for this outstanding honor and for the pride they being to all us fans of SC Prep Football.
