Huge Pick up for the Gamecocks !!!!

South Carolina started its run on the Top Players in South Carolina when Greenville's Senstaional Wide Out, Noah Whiteside announced his intentions to attend USC to Coach Lou Holtz.

Huge Pick up for the Gamecocks !!!!

One of our favorite and one of the most exciting players in the state this season was Greenville's Noah Whiteside. Tonight it was confirmed that he has given his firm pledge to the University of South Carolina to attend and be part of the Class of 2007.

From early summer on, we were excited about the skills this young man possessed and the ability he showed throughout the pre season and into the regular season. His weekly improvement and dedication to his game showed why college coaches all over the South were after this young man and his signature.

Noah rose from Number 15 in our pre season Sensational Sixty to his current ranking of #4. It could be argued that his success this season should garner him the #1 spot but with talents along the line of Summers, Newton, and Young, it is hard to make it all the way to the top. But Noah should not worry too much about rankings. He was clearly the Number 1 WR in the state and among the Top 15 in the entire country.

SC Pigskin Prep was all over Whiteside as early as June of this year when we saw him in the 7 on 7 leagues this summer in competition all over the upstate. We named him as the best WR in the state.  As the season progressed and Noah put up obscene numbers including a 12 catch 269 yard  performance in Week 4, we realized he was a special talent.

In 2002, Noah enjoyed one of the most successful seasons of any WR in over 20 years. His catches, yardage, and touchdowns were more in combination than any WR, including former SC High School great Roscoe Crosby,  Airies Currie, Bobby Ingram, Brian Scott and Zola Davis. His career numbers are simply amazing.

With a strong passing attack and a go to guy like Noah,  the Greenville Red Raiders had their most successful season in over 40 years. A 12-0 start had Greenville ranked #1 in the state in Class 3A. For 2 ½ quarters, Greenville gave the eventual state champ Union Yellow Jackets all they wanted before running out of steam in the 4th quarter.

For his career Noah caught 210 passes for 3870 yards and 42 touchdowns.

At USC, Noah will line up opposite some fantastic young receivers. Playing on one side will be All Freshmen SEC performer from Silver Bluff, SC Troy Williamson. Noah will also be joined by David Smith from Union High School and NC Shrine Bowl star Travis Lee from Shelby, NC to form a great young WR corp.

Congrats to USC and Noah for the outstanding career at
Greenville High School.
