Baptist Hill wide receiver, Devin Gilliard, was in Columbia, SC on this past Saturday taking in the Junior Day festivities at the University of South Carolina. And after seeing various parts of the campus up close and personal, the gifted athlete came away raving about everything the Gamecocks had to offer.
"I really enjoyed the visit," Gilliard told SCPrepNation.com. "I got a chance to tour the campus; stuff like that. It was very informative. Everything went really well. I really had a nice time while I was up there."
Gilliard was one of the state's leaders in receiving yards at the conclusion of the '08 football season. Last fall, the 5-11, 175 pound star came down with 58 receptions for 1,291 yards. He also starred on the defensive side of the ball where recorded 41 tackles and 6 interceptions, which makes it easy to understand why he's on the Gamecocks radar early on.
Devin's teammate, RB Shaunn Middleton (pictured), accompanied him on the trip up to South Carolina. Middleton also put up some nice numbers on both sides of the ball last season. The 5-9, 185 pound athlete ran for 1,384 yards and scored 13 rushing touchdowns on just 137 carries, an average of 10.1 yards per carry. Defensively he registered 78 tackles and picked off 3 passes; returning two of them for scores.
According to Gilliard, Saturday's trip to Columbia certainly won't be their last. Especially after receiving an invitation to take in this year's Spring Game. However, if they are unable to make the trip this spring, the Baptist Hill duo has been kicking around the idea of camping with the Gamecocks this summer. Whatever these two young men decide to do, you can rest assure that we'll keep you posted. So until the next time, keep it locked right here for much more!
