SCPrepNation.com recently caught up with Camden High School defensive lineman, Roland Johnson, to see how things have been shaping as of late. "Everything has been going real well," Johnson informed SCPrepNation.com. "Just working hard in the weight room; stuff like that. Just trying to get ready for next season..."
Dating back to last summer when we first met Johnson, the Midlands Area native was weighing in right around 230 pounds. Well since then, the big guy has added on another 15 pounds of muscle mass, and has gotten much stronger. In fact, the Camden High star had an opportunity to showcase some of that strength at a very prestigious combine that was held in Charlotte, NC last weekend. "I went up to the Nike Combine on last Sunday," Johnson told SCPrepNation.com. "Things turned out pretty well for me My SPARQ score was an 87.03. I did really well in the power ball event. I threw the ball 47 feet."
The Nike Combine won't be Roland's last stop on the '09 combine circuit this spring/summer. The 6-0, 245 pound stud plans to attend the National Underclassmen Combine, which was where he made his mark last year. Johnson simply used his strength and power against his opponents during the one-on-one drills, and walked away with a number of awards/honors.
Roland's success on the combine circuit carried over onto the playing field last fall. The Camden High stud simply terrorized his opponents on the gridiron last season. At the conclusion of the '08 season, the big DL had accumulated 150 tackles, 26 TFL, and 6 sacks.
Roland's encore performance on last fall caught the eyes of several high profiled programs. And since then, they have been flooding his mailbox with letters, especially Georgia Tech and Florida State… "I get letters from them all the time," Johnson said. "Those two programs have been sending me the most stuff out of everybody so far."
Roland is in the process of putting together a highlight tape for college coaches to view. And we are certain that his recruitment will go to the next level once his junior highlight film starts making its way around the country.
Stay tuned for much more on this talented 2010 prospect from out of Camden High School.
