After our initial introduction of 2010 Woodmont High CB/S Okoye Houston we started to field some phone calls and emails about just who this youngster from Woodmont was. To sum up our general response, "Okoye Houston is going to be one of the top prospects at safety or cornerback in the 2010 class before it's all said and done. I'm not talking just in South Carolina but maybe the entire southeastern region."
I still stand by the statement today. With 2 scholarship offers in hand already from Vanderbilt and Coastal Carolina we expect things to heat up rather quickly for Houston. Why do we say that? Currently on his spring break, Houston is making an extended road trip to various schools of interest this week. The 2010 prospect gave us a buzz to give us the latest as to what's going on with his journey on the road.
"Yes we're (Houston and 2010 teammate QB/WR/ATH Treis Suber) on a road trip right now. We're in Buffalo right now visiting them in the morning. We've already went to Maryland this morning and they are talking about offering me. Tomorrow Buffalo is probably gonna offer me. After that we are then going to visit Louisville. Thursday we're going to check out Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Then we're heading to Clemson before we come home finally."
Houston checks in at 6'0 180 pounds and has excellent hips and recovery speed (Runs a 4.46 second 40 yard dash and 4.00 second pro shuttle time). He also utilizes that speed to deliver some punishing tackles to opponents.
With the offer from the Commodores and heavy interest from Duke it shows another area where Okoye is very strong, the classroom. With a 3.01 GPA Houston stays on top of his academics just as much as he blankets opposing wide receivers.
At this point some of his tackles will remind you of former San Francisco 49er Ronnie Lott or the recently retired John Lynch of Denver and Tampa Bay. Houston uncoils ferociously and has great size, especially for the next level.
He is expected to be in attendance at the Scout.com combine in Charlotte later this month and if he tests as well as we expect him to then his stock should skyrocket in a big way.
Stay tuned for more updates concerning Okoye Houston and Treis Suber in the near future as we'll be visiting the duo at Woodmont High School once they return from their spring break vacation.
Suber is a standout athlete who is hearing from many of the same schools as Houston. Illinois and Duke are heavily in the mix currently. We will have video highlights of both prospects loaded soon so stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com!
