As SCPrepNation.com reported earlier this week 2010 Mauldin High OL Taylor Hudson scored his first scholarship offer from East Carolina. We sat down with Hudson to talk about the Pirates offer and all of the other teams that currently have him on their radar. We also take a look ahead at his early prognosis for his Mauldin Mavericks after spring practice concluded.
For Hudson that first offer brought some relief to what has been a long arduous journey. "It feels great to get my first offer, I've been dreaming of this since I was a little kid."
"East Carolina has been contacting me for a few months now. I've been talking to Coach Kirkpatrick on the phone and he came by for spring practice."
Hudson says he has yet to visit the Greenville NC campus yet but plans to attend camp with the Pirates on July 25th.
With the ECU offer a number of other schools remain heavily in the mix for Hudson he says. "Right now I hear the most from Marshall, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Buffalo, NC State, Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern, and Liberty."
Hudson elaborated on what plans to be a busy June and July for the 2010 prospect. "I'll be visiting or camping with a bunch of schools. Clemson June 11th, Marshall June 13th, Georgia Southern June 20th, Liberty June 23rd, NC State June 24th, and East Carolina July 25th."
A little over a month ago Hudson made the journey up to Charlotte to participate in the Scout.com combine series. There he competed against some of the top prospects from both Carolinas. He shared his thoughts on the experience with us. "It was a great combine, I got to see how I stand up to some of the top players in the country."
With his Mauldin squad finishing up spring practice we asked Hudson how he felt his team looked currently heading towards next season. "The team gets better everyday. We all are working hard and and going to keep working hard this summer. Both sides of the ball are looking great. Our offense is going to be hard to stop."
"Our goal as a team is to win every game but we are going to take it one game at a time. My personal goals are to work hard and to help my team win. Hopefully I'll get all-region and make the Shrine Bowl."
Hudson says obtaining his first offer only adds fuel to his desire to become an even better prospect. "Yes, the first offer makes me want to work even harder now to get even more offers."
Taylor says if he had to list his favorites at this point they are, "#1 ECU, #2 Marshall, and #3 Clemson. Honestly though it's still wide open to everybody that wants to recruit me."
Asked if he felt any other programs could be the next to pull the trigger he replied, "I really don't know but I've been talking to Marshall, Buffalo, Vandy, and Clemson a lot."
As for key areas that he'll be working vehemently on to improve he says that he'll work a good deal on improving his speed and foot work but will also continue to work on adding strength.
