2010 Byrnes QB Chas Dodd has landed his first major scholarship offer from Rutgers. We caught up with Dodd to talk about his first scholarship offer and how things are progressing for him on the recruiting front as a whole.
"It feel's great. It's a great school and I'm real excited about it," Dodd told us about his Rutgers offer.
"I was actually at camp up there this past weekend and stayed for two days. I threw for them and got a good chance to see their campus and check things out. It is really nice up there."
Being from South Carolina, New Jersey is a big change of scenery for almost anyone Palmetto State native. Would that have an impact on his thoughts concerning the Scarlet Knights?
"No. It doesn't matter to me. It's a good school and I really liked it up there. If I have to go far away from home and play that's fine. It's not a big deal at all to me."
Dodd said one aspect about his trip to New Jersey really stood out about the Big East program. "The facilities were excellent. They were a lot better than I expected them to be. I like them a lot."
Dodd says along with Rutgers, that Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, and Western Carolina are showing him the most interest currently. In fact there could be some news from Wake in the near future.
"Wake Forest is supposed to let me know very soon whether or not they will be offering me a scholarship."
He says as of right now Rutgers and Wake Forest are his current favorites considering their seriousness of their interest.
Dodd and the Rebels have been working feverishly this offseason on the 7 on 7 circuit. While they lost one event they realize now is the time to work on their timing and implementing some new twists to their arsenal. The bigger picture for the team is to make another run at the AAAA Division 1 state title and possibly the national championship.
"Yeah I definitely think we can do it. We've got so many weapons on both sides of the ball. I think we can do it again if we go out and work hard and stay focused."
Dodd says he's uncertain of any immediate camp visits but that a plan to camp with William & Mary is still up in the air currently.
As far as a timetable on making a final decision he had this to say, "There's a possibility I might commit early and I was talking to my coaches about it. I'm not sure but I will talk with my parents and could take some more visits so I'm undecided on that right now. We'll see."
The only knock we've gathered from talking with various college coaches and scouts are Dodd's size. Asked to talk about those who doubt his abilities due to his size Dodd replied, "You know I just go out and play and try to make plays for my team. I want people to know that I can get the job done just as well as those bigger guys." Guiding his team to 2 AAAA Division 1 state championships titles there's no doubting his talents in our minds.
