Williston-Elko took the playing field on this past Thursday night against Barnwell High, in what many thought was going to be an intriguing match-up. However, this was simply not the case, as Williston-Elko ran away with a 56-14 lopsided victory over Barnwell.
Williston-Elko was led by ATH, Dexter Staley, who is projected to be one of the better prospects from out of the 2011 recruiting class. The 6-2, 215 pound athlete simply went off in the Blue Devils home-opener, and he recently spoke with SCPrepNation.com about his performance. "I had six touchdowns on Thursday night," Staley told SCPrepNation.com in a recent interview. "I had five rushing touchdowns, and I caught another. I had about 155 rushing yards, 40 yards receiving, and I threw a pass for about 30 yards. I also had five tackles on defense."
"This is what I've been waiting for," Staley continued. "I've been waiting to get back on the field for a long time. It felt real good to get back out there on the field at home, against one of our rivals."
Staley is looking to take some of that same momentum into next week's game when the Blue Devils take on second-year program, Ashley Ridge. "This was a good victory for us," Staley said. "It gives us something to build on. It makes us want to play harder and harder."
