The Baptist Hill Bobcats travelled to Cross, SC to take on the Cross Trojans in a Region 6-A showdown on this past Friday night. And SCPrepNation.com was on hand to take in some of the festivities.
The Bobcats were able to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit, to knock off the Trojans 30-25, in front of a stunned home crowd.
In the early stages of the contest, it appeared as if the Trojans were going to run away with things after building a comfortable 25-6 lead, late into the second quarter. But just before halftime, Baptist Hill running back, Shaunn "BAMA" Middleton, scored on a kick-off return, bringing the Bobcats to within 13.
Due to lightning in the area, there was a 1-hour delay before the second half could resume.
Apparently the weather delay gave the Bobcats a little extra time to re-group, and put together a plan for the Trojans in the second half. Needless the say, the plan worked… Defensively the Bobcats' defense came alive in the second half, and was able to hold the Trojans' offense scoreless the final two quarters of play. The Bobcats' offense rose to the occation in the second half as well, scoring 18 unanswered points to knock off the Trojans.
"We had a talk at halftime," Middleton told SCPrepNation.com. "We knew we had to come out ready to play in the second half if we wanted to win this game. At the beginning of the game, we didn't play with enough energy. So we knew we had to raise the intensity a little bit in the second half. So we came out, played hard, and won the game."
2010 wide receiver prospect, Devin Gilliard was responsible for hauling in the game winning touchdown for the Bobcats with 4 seconds remaining on the clock. "I was just concentrating on catching the ball," Gilliard said. "That was the main thing. After I came down with the ball in my hands, I just took it into the end zone and scored. Oh man, it felt real good."
Running back Shaunn Middleton proved once again why colleges need to take a serious look at him as a prospect. The 5-9, 185 pound running back prospect finished out the game with 150+ yards rushing, 1 rushing TD, and returned a kick for a score.
